It's basically pong on acid (I.E. Killing mummies and dragons, running away from wolves, and breaking out of prisons. And the whole time, you're that block thing from pong, except with a face)

I played the mario and duck hunt like some here did but I was still more of a casual gamer. I'd play and clear them but not hardcore until I got my hands on Doom so I give it the credit.
Pokemon Blue sparked my gaming. I put so many hours into that game, so much fun. I played games before this one but none of them really kept my attention like Pokemon Blue did and after it I was always wanting to find more games that I would enjoy just as much.
Disney's Donald Duck PK [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disney%27s_PK:_Out_of_the_Shadows] was the first game I ever played on the Playstation 2. It was also the first game I've ever played all the way through, since I had only played game demos and the first level of adventure games on PC before that (couldn't get past that friggin' guard...).
Edit: Oh, and I had played some Super Mario and Goldeneye multiplayer on N64.
So yeah, that's the game that started the chain of events that would eventually make me the gamer you see today.

Super Mario Bros (NES), Pokemon Red (GBC), Super Smash Bros. (N64), and Halo: Combat Evolved (Xbox) all played a major role in getting me into gaming.
Super Mario Bros first got me interested in gaming when I was really young, maybe 4 or 5. I then graduated to SNES and Super Mario World. My friends in the late nineties got hooked into the Pokemon craze and Pokemon Red was the first game that I really spent a lot of time with. From there, Super Smash Bros and Halo made me the competitive jerk that I am to this day.
