I had an NES when I was young and the games that I remember starting my interest on there were Duck Hunt, Super Mario Bros 3, Mega Man, Battle Toads, and some others I'm sure I'm forgetting. Then my family got it's first PC in the next few years and I started my gaming on there with SimCity, Shadowcaster, and Speed Racer.

So, I was hooked on gaming by the age of six.

First watching my cousin play Ocarina of Time and then playing Yellow version. But instead of staying on the path of Nintendo I turned to PC gaming.

My mom had an nes in the mid 80s and when I was really little I would watch her play super mario bros. I would get scared of the bowser castle levels and hide behind the couch. First game I remember really getting into was probably legend of zelda or galaga.

Age of Empires II did it for me. My uncle loved it, and let me play it when I was eleven, and that was when I realized that "Hey, video games are fun!" Previously, my parents had always swamped me with the idea that VIDEO GAMES WILL RUIN YOUR CREATIVE MIND AND THEY SUCK and I had mostly believed them. But when I brought home AOE II, which required planning and strategy to play and was based off real-world history, they softened up a little. Since then I've played everything I can get my hands on and what do you know, I haven't devolved into an ignorant meatbag devoid of imagination.
Also, Halo was what made me expand my palate beyond RTS games.

Well, I've been playing games for as long as I can remember: At one point or the other, Ive owned and played games on NES, SNES, SEGA Megadrive, Family Comm (I bet many ppl don't know that)GameBoy, SEGA DreamCast (an underrated gem) PS and so on (cant be bothered to finish the list) so I really cant say a particular game "got" me into games but some games that are special to me and stand out in my memory when I was younger was Tetris, Mario, Donkey Kong Country 3 (probably my best game of all time), Mortal combat, Street fighter,Crash Bandicoot, Nights into Dreams. Then GTA3, KOTOR, Oblivion and Mass Effect more recently.

I partially learnt to read from the game "Rogue", an older version of the much-acclaimed "NetHack." I knew strange phrases like 'you hear maniacal laughter in the distance' at age 4, as well as being unable to write in lower case for some time; the monsters were indicated by capital letters for those unfamiliar with the game (although I not longer attempt to remove all of my clothes when I see a capital 'A', the dreaded armour-sapping Aquator being a much-hated foe of mine).

The game that lured me into gaming most would have to be Diablo 1: this was the game that introduced me to the online community, and for free (minus the original cost) no less! From then it was always about online games I could play with my friends, especially ones with a sense of 'progression', be it in terms of skill or material gain. When I was 13 there was nothing better than blasting through Hell Act 5 with a few mates and a bit of Magic Find on, for the sheer fun of destroying monsters and the chance that each of them might drop something. Oh Diablo.

Besides that the first game I emotionally connected with was (yawn) Final Fantasy 7.

Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot for the PS1, but some Pokemon Blue on the GBC also helped.

Honestly I played video games on and off for most of my life, but never really got into them the way a gamer would. They were more a minor bi-weekly distraction but it wasn't until I got my first job and bought a ps2/FFX combo that I actually perked up and noticed that 90 consecutive hours of my life (and three of my college courses) had suddenly vanished forever. Yes a JRPG killed me and I have been yet another corpse in the mass grave of the gamer community ever since. Dammit Yuna, quit making a martyr of yourself long enough to put out yes it's ok to love before dying.

Pokemon! It was so more complex than Mario back in the day that I played it, and it made me want more stuff that is complex. I'm a big RPG fan. (Western and Japanese ones)

Oh wait I just remembered: CRASH BANDICOOT! I need to buy the old games off ebay or something to play those awesome games again. The new ones suck.

The original Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? for the Apple II.
I totally remember that one, we had Apple IIe's at my junior high, and that was a popular game right up there with Lode Runner, Choplifter, Karateka and the hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy ("It's Dark...") and probably the first word processor, the bank street writer. LOL I remember seeing my first digitized boobies from a 5 1/2 inch floppy a guy brought to school. (Black and white "Hi-rez" animation with 8 bit sound) Hilarious. My gaming goes back even further than THAT (See my first post)
