Just came back from watching Elysium. Overall it was alright and it did had a District 9 vibe to it and aswell that guy style (the robot look very similar to that short film he made ages ago).

Cool, are you talking about his film Tempbot [http://spyfilms.com/#/neill_blomkamp/films/tempbot]?

Not many people I know have seen it, let alone heard of it.

Elysium. I enjoyed it a lot. But I'm pretty forgiving of Blomkamp's "Subtle as a wounded Rhino" school of storytelling.

Outside of the theatre it was "Super." It's a weird flick and more in line with the Kick-Ass comics than their own adaptations...take that how you will.

I watched Tropic Thunder for the first time yesterday. And yes, I enjoyed it. The theme did not always match the execution (in that, it reminded me at times of Kick-Ass), but that wasn't a bad thing.

Not quite, I was thinking more of Treta Vaal

Still I never seen Tempbot until now so I thank you for that link (heh it look like Tempbot got an upgrade and change career compared to Treta Vaal).

Also another thing with Elysim that you can tell it's Neil work is due to the "violence" seen in that film.

Decided to watch a really bad movie with a friend.
Resident Evil 5 blew away our expectations. Thank God we got it free or I would have been pissed.

Quit at the beginning of Ella Enchanted. Because I knew exactly how the plot was going to go, I thought I would keep watching it if the Prince was hot enough. He wasn't, so I turned it off. The premise kind of bothered me too...

I caught The Mechanic on HBO last night. I enjoyed it a lot, at least until all hell broke loose and it went from being a stealth game to full-fledged FPS.

Netflix Movies

Blood: The Last Vampire - I enjoyed it, would watch again. Teenage centuries old half human, half vampire/demon hunting other vampire/demons with a katana?

The Thieves (Foreign Film) - Ocean's Eleven with Chinese and Koreans, but a hell of a lot more complex. Enjoyed it, would watch again, even with the couple of loose ends it leaves.

Theatre Movies

The World's End - Go see it, if just for the Pegg/Frost role reversal alone.

Elysium - Decent. I did not find it nearly as concise or strong as District 9. Neill did a fantastic job focusing on two characters with District. I feel he lost his focus introducing and trying make relvelant more in Elysium. Except for Sharlto Copley. Loved his character and a damned good performance.

Fellowship of the Ring. Who doesn't love that one? Or all of those movies for that matter?

Oooh of course! I remember seeing Tetra Vaal years back and I tried to look up info on it. All I could find out was that it had been done by a company called The Orphanage, who ended up working on the first Iron Man (just the HUD I believe). In retrospect, only Neill Blomkamp could have directed Tetra Vaal.

Elysium. Not very good to be honest. I feel like they didn't reply use the cool world they created to good effect. All we see of Elysium is the inside of a building really. Story not very good. Kruger was funny though.
that is really disappointing. I was looking forward to this especially after how much i enjoyed district 9.

i like how district 9 was a metaphor (and not a very subtle one at that) about racism and segregation is south africa. i expected Elysium to be similar in the respect that it was a commentary on the whole "upper one percent" thing but everyone seems to say its a terrible movie

And no, I didn't enjoy it, in fact it was quite possibly the worst movie I've ever seen.
I am quoting you just so I can say:
A) I am sorry you didn't like it.
B) I am sorry you found it.
and
C) I agree with you. Quite possibly one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

OT: I watched Grave of the Fireflies for the first time. I didn't cry until I started thinking about it the next day. It super bummed me out, and it makes me feel like a terrible human being, plus the idea of it actually horrified me. Imagining those characters as real people, which they were, and in some parts of the world, It is still going probably going on, Hit me somewhere deep in my heart.

That poor little girl...

I suppose I liked it, as much as you can 'like' that movie. Am I glad I watched it? I felt culpable as I watched it, but it was a fine film.

Dog Soldiers, and yes i enjoyed it. Nice action/horror mix. Has a sense of humour which keeps the tone lighter without detracting from the impact.

I'll give you the last two.

The Hobbit
Yes. It was longer than I thought it would be, which was both good and bad. I liked most of it but it got very silly and over-the-top in places. Overall it was a solid fantasy adventure. Not the caliber of LotR, but then neither was the book. Also, bird shit all over his face? Seriously?

Dredd
Yes. It's a shoot-'em-up, no frills, no apologies, just bangbangbang in the best tradition of Robocop and Total Recall. It's a way better picture of the futurepocalypse of Megacity One than that overblown cartoon with Sly Stallone.

I ended up watching the remake of Gambit when my mum got it on DVD. Not the best or the funniest film, but its not bad I suppose. In my opinion Alan Rickman was the best actor there as Lionel Shahbandar, but Colin Firth just grated on my nerves.
