Role-playing.
Thing is, even roleplaying-wise I never could find any reason to be an asshole. In Dragon Age for example, my elf was a racist, angry bastard who just killed everything, and he had a reason to; raised in the slums, his soon-to-be wife taken from him, etc etc. No wonder he was a downright bastard to every human he came across (and cold to the rest).

But why would my Wastelander be such an asshole? I never got that in Fallout 3 or New Vegas (note: haven't finished New Vegas yet though), the evil guys like the Powder Gangers were just evil for, well, evil's sake I suppose. I can't work with that. Why would my character murder Three Dog? Why would my character sabotage the NCR? Etc etc, being evil has little reason. Got that in the first Fallout as well

I also miss setting your intelligence really low and having hilarious dialog choices.

And now I know what to do when I finish my first Fallout playthrough. One retard coming up!

If the NPCs didn't want to be abused, they wouldn't live inside a game where you have the option to do so! It's simple as that!

For the same reason you're bad in any RPG. So you can have fun with less consequence. (Eg: Random murders)

Being a dick has always been a plus for RPGs but in Fallout 3, if you had done your homework, you would know that some perks do not come with being Dudley-Do-Right.

The Dream Crusher Perk is one of the best in the game and is given to you when you actually convince Moira in Megaton to give up on the Wasteland Survival Guide. This little thing decreases the chances of you getting critically shot or hit by ANYTHING down 50%. That is a pretty big POINT if you ask me. Just not big enough for me. I have the game a year now and I still cannot go through with the choices.

Where do I begin?

Jericho
Callahan's Magnum
Watching Harold burn
Cannibalism
Mesmetron
Blowing up the Citadel
Psychotic Prankster

What's the point of being good?

The point of being good? This guy.

Blows out of the water everything you just listed. Not to mention that Psychotic Prankster doesn't affect your karma if done to the right people or that you can simply let Callahan die and remain good.

Some men just want to watch the world burn...

Kinda cheesy I know but it does pertain to this thread. For some people Fallout allows for them to fulfill that fantasy of being a total psychopath and kill everyone they meet. Plus when you buy something from a merchant, then kill them and take back the caps you tend to get richer faster. My friend would just kill everyone he didn't like and take whatever he wanted because for him there wasn't really any consiquences to it.

I usually end up good only because I generally don't just go around killing people. In Fallout I ended up killing off the Family and Arefu (all because of the acidental theft of a harmonica), helped the ghouls get into Tenpenny tower the violent way (the only person I was sad to see die was Herbert "Daring" Dashwood, dude was pretty cool), and enslaving people so after being nice some more I ended up neutral. Its especially hard to be evil in New Vegas for me because if I attack someone from a faction the whole thing hates me. So my evil acts are generally limited to stealing shit and eating human corpses. Although I hope to rectify this with some choices in quests.

As for actual consequences to being bad other than having Regulators on your ass, well you Father really disapprove's, he's really disappointed.
"Son, I am disappoint."

Well when you played as a good guy, did you enslave the entire population of rivet city? Or how a bout Wipe out Tennpenny Tower for the lulz? OH how about drop mines next to every building or exit at Megaton. Then shoot someone and watch everyone run away? No? Just me? Huh i think i may need some mental help.

My main problem with being bad in games is that normally it means rejecting quests.

Also, being mean makes my insides feel funny.
Like when I climbed to rope in gym class?/ Waynes world anyone?

Seriously though, I just feel conflicted being bad in games. SO I like to save, then do the bad stuff just to see what happens, then reload and be good.

i was thinking, apart from the amusing town massacres and blowing up megaton there wasn't
much point being bad in fallout 3, being good you can have fawkes, star paladin cross and i think a3 21's plasma rifle you have to be good to get, but being bad the best you can get is callahans magnum and thats all i can think of i might be being totaly ignorant of some parts of the game but thats all i can think of...
so what was the point? (btw i'm not saying this game is bad, apart from that one thing so don't take it like i dont like the whole game because i really do)

Clover, the only sex slave in the game, would only work for you if you were evil. Jericho, who is hilarious, would only work for you if you were evil. You could also take out your frustration on others whenever you wanted.

The part when you talk to NPCs just plain sucked in the game.
Thankfully, Obsidian actually managed to make it acceptable. And they have clawstanding scorpions, too.

You get that penthouse in Tenpenny Tower too. You also get all the weapons you can steal from the good people.

I was bad in FO3 because I needed stuff and other people had said stuff.

Also I was hungry and the only food nearby was a person.

That and even when I try to be good, I can't... (I can't resist putting live grenades and mines into peoples pockets)

It is immensely satisfying to stab the fuck out of anybody you like.
And the children!(With the right mods of course.)
