i first started on creative mode, so it was a small wooden house, with crappy decorations.... i went on evolving creating underground bases, completely decorated skycrapers and even perfect looking summer houses...

then i bought minecraft to play on survival...

I made a dirt house with only one block withouth anything so that i could see when it was day or night...

I felt so dissapointed that day xD

But i worked on in creating a huge building or 3 sides... the first 2 sides were 2 floors, with the undergrond floor has the farm and the first floor has the storage room, and the 3rd side was pointed to a dock, with underground escape routes, and the tools required to survive...

A box made of mud. But my first proper home was a rather nice tower with an underground storeroom that connected to a network of tunnels going all over the island.

My first Minecraft home was dug into a good sized hill which was right along the beach. I dug out the sand in the front so it had a moat, and planted cacti everywhere to hurt the monsters that got close. It was pretty secure until digging upward to replace the dirt with cobblestone I dug the block out from under a creeper and he fell in and blew me up a long with a good bit of my storage/crafting room.

I eventually dug a long stairway down to bedrock and found a lava chamber, and a series of tunnels that opened up to interesting areas so I could travel between them at night without getting killed, it was pretty spiffy.

I found a pretty awesome canyon back in 1.1 beta or something, and dug a bit into one of the walls. Eventually I expanded it and ended up with a huge underground base, with a large cave system under it.

The first shelter I ever made was the hole in a cliff where I mined out coal. I then built a cobble castle with a massive tower, and then never played ssp again, until recently where I've started a 1.8 file, and I've got a nice looking house made of wood, logs and a cobble slab roof. I'm going to build a better house nearby and turn it into a mine entrance/shed for it, so it'll be nice.

Since the first time I played minecraft it lagged too much for it to even be possible to play on survival I played on peaceful, so my first home was two stories made of wood on the first floor, I then realised I can make planks, and built the second with that. On the top I built a barracks made of cobblestone and then I made a basement by just mining out a square.

Outside was a harbour with a small pirate ship on it.

Mine was four tall wooden walls. No roof or door, just something to keep the zombies at bay until the sunrise. Of course, I didn't realize that I'd built it under a tree, and zombies, skeletons (and worse...) spawned up there all night and dropped on top of me until I walled off the top into a makeshift roof.

The next morning, I noticed I was near a nice beach so I went and immediately built an enormous sandcastle, but not realizing that sand was affected by gravity, I wasn't able to build an easy path in or out. I spent the night there, but I had built steps to get inside so skeletons kept jumping up there and shooting at me.

When the sun rose, I returned to my first place and tried sprucing it up and making it more livable. I experimented around and figured out how to build a furnace, and as I was trying to figure out how it worked and what it was for, night fell and zombies snuck up behind me (I had no door) and killed me.

Respawning, I couldn't see anything I recognized, so I hunted around for my buildings, and couldn't find them, so I counted them lost forever. I built a new house in the field I spawned in, and holed up in there while I alt-tabbed to read the FAQ.

After a few days of building, my house was in good shape, and I was working on an enormous castle to laugh at creepers from. While at the top, I noticed a mysterious glow in the distance, and spent the next day trying to find it.

It was my sandcastle...

50 or so high tower of sand with a 3x3x1 platform of dirt on the top :p which eventually morphed into a massive floating glass skydome thing with an epic bridge that took just under 6 minutes to cross to the nearest mountain on the other side of the ocean I had spawned next to :D I was pretty proud of it to be honest :)

Well, my first home on minecraft was besically a hole I dug out by removing a seam of coal. It got a lot, lot bigger after that with side passages and things but I don't use it any more as it got a bit small and was quite difficult to get to.
Even so, most of my other homes and projects are within viewing distance basically of the place.

It's quite a nice spot really, I was very pleased with it when I saw it. There's a sort of pond and a beach with a hill above and a meadow in front.

I started with a small 5x7 building. Then I built a second floor. After that I hollowed out a basement. Put on a conservatory on the first floor. there are now three levels of basement, one level having a metro station. connected my basement and my second floor with the Manor house I built across the street. built an underground road to my fort. As soon as the rest of my mods get updated, I'm building a beach under my first house, just because.

edit: I forgot to mention my watervater, goes from the second floor down to the highest floor in the basement, and that I built a pitched roof, or as close as you can get in minecraft

i had watched people play minecraft before so i knew all the tricky stuff like find coal make torches quickly so my first house was a kami's lookout style tower with glass instead of stone. later i added a swirl of lava and water to the top of it. then my game world got deleted :(

Well, the first home I had was this delightful wooden castle on a beachfront. Before long, I built down, then wound up with an underwater tunnel leading to a ridiculous and equally underwater base. Good times... Back before I knew what doors were, that Spiders could climb walls, or ... Actually, before I knew anything about Minecraft, really. God only knows how I built the underwater lair, apart from calling the process "Painstakingly careful".

a natural cave entrance with a door slapped in it. Was lucky enough to come across a single bit of coal, so I sat in there with four torches, occasionally peeking out to see if the night had gone away yet.

Ended up expanding the interior, adding ring-shaped floors and replacing most of the roof with glass, allowing sunlight to shine onto all the floors, turning it into quite a beauty.

My first? Well I have two on the same world.

It was a small cave by a lake, perfect to spot any threats. If there were any, they would be stuck in the water and all facing me from the front.

I dug my cave deeper and walled it with wooden planks. The lake is gone, it was a pool of lava before it rained again -_-.

My second home is above my first, in the clouds, below a giant, red hot air balloon.

I made some in multiplayer servers, just grow a bunch of giant trees and build a house out of wood in it. Or the one with an attic with my friends. It's protected by turrets and cacty.
