The one I most concretely remember started about 5 years ago with one buddy of mine. We used Starcraft UMS maps designed for roleplaying as set pieces. It started off as a lone thief with a sandsnake companion named Fluffy, and it's still going on; we've been through about 40 maps worth of story and have probably clocked over 1200 hours on the whole thing.
It's amazing what 2 lone imaginations can put together.

My favorite RP has to be My first one which was on the Relic Forums boardwars. It started in my days as a complete noob writer and really taught me how to start doing story and emotion provoking post and how not to powergame when possible and keep balanced with everyone else while remaining special in your own way. Everytime I read it I laugh because I can hardly read my own work and it lacks any structuring but somehow remains entertaining.
The Escapist Election for me, if it counts.
