Baldurs Gate I think.

Rough start, aye? :p

Edit: Now that I think of it, I also played Chrono Trigger on the SNES with a friend at his place, think that would count as the first one.

Damn right. That and FF1 and Ultima (can't remember which one) were some of my first RPG's. Pfft...all these scrubs and their Pokemon.
Er, well, the original Ultima came out in 1980 and even I wasn't old enough to play that. Or at least not old enough to read at the time it came out. I played Ultima 6 and 7 on the NES.

It was this really old game on the Amiga. I do not remember the title but I can remember that I was this prince is a castle, and you were looking from above and could only walk one floortile at a time. Mostly you had to find keys to progress to the next level, which could take hours. By today`s standards it would be boring but at the time it was completly enthralling...if only I could remember the game, any ideas?

Well then those were probably the ones I played since I started my gamin on the NES. Man I remember how hard RPG's were compared to today's standards. Some of them were ludicrously hard at times...some of FF1's segments still give me bad memories.

I know it was one of the Final Fantasy games, some number between 1 and 4, I was maybe 6-7 when I played it so I can't remember much about it.

Xenosaga, but it just got so damn repetitive! Too much work and not enough continual interest. Plus the cut-scenes were like 20 minutes long.

River City Ransom. Don't want RCR in your genre? Ok fine then, FF1. Both on the N8. Both awesome games where you travel around killing things that happen to pop up in your face while learning about some baddie doing something you'd rather they didn't and kill your way through enough crap inside and out before levelling up your stats over the course of bloody hours and hours finding doo-dangs that give you new abilities and finally facing a big bad prick and save the princess or in RCR's case, some chick.
