As New Super Mario Bros. hits shelves, I started thinking back to the long list of previous Mario games. I believe I can say I've at least played every main Mario game that's been released in the US, that had Mario as the main playable character (so excluding the Yoshi's Island games). Moreover, in many of them I've gotten all the stars/coins/yoshi eggs/star coins/secret exits/yoshi coins to earn the 100% award.
That said, there's always been one game in the series I could never quite get myself into: Super Mario Sunshine. My first encounter with it was at a friend's house, and during the sleepover I remember playing a decent bit when I woke up in the morning while my friend slept. I eventually got it for myself when I got my own gamecube, but I could simply never quite get myself into the game.
Maybe it was my perfectionism cringing at all the goo I could never completely wash away, or maybe it was that the water gun mechanic simply didn't seem to fit in the Mario universe. I've tried several times to come back to it, but I just can't. What are your thoughts? Am I alone in this respect? I love all the other Mario games, and am looking forward to NSMBW and SMG2. Maybe people who don't like the more traditional Mario platformers enjoyed this one better? Let me know.
