I loved it. It was probably one of my favorite Mario games. Something about seeing Mario covered in sludge just made him look so frickin cool.

I liked it. It was different but fun, except when they took away fludd
i personally thought it was best when they took away fludd.

I dunno, i enjoyed the game, but it was sunshine that made me realise that i had outgrown mario attributed to how easy the game was. I felt let down because i had strived so hard to finish Super Mario 64, it was challenging and i really felt like i had accomplished something when i finished it. I did not get that feeling with sunshine.
it was different when that happened but shunshine was half third person shooter half colorful patformer, it would be like taking cambos out of fighting games, its still fun but its not the same

In my opinion it was the best Mario game ever. Galaxy was great but it was goddamn easy. 64 was good, but simpler and all that and I hadn't played it when I was young, so it doesn't have the nostalgia value to me.

I will concede this point. I love that theme! :D

I don't get all the hate for this game, either. I really enjoyed it, I loved how colourful it was, there was a fair amount of variance in the things to be done, too.

I loved Sunshine. I can't understand the bad reputation it gets, it is my favorite of the 3d Mario titles, and I did play 64 when it came out. I was not a fan of Galaxy all that much, it was not quite as fun as the others.
I'm actually pleasantly surprised by what seems like a general appreciation for the game. For the record, in case I wasn't clear, it's not that I hate the game - it's just that it never really "clicked" with me. I keep trying though, and maybe one day it will work out.

What frustrates me regarding this game is people who rip on Nintendo for cannibalizing its franchises, but when they try something different, like this game, it gets trashed for not adhering to the 'Mario formula'.
This is true, and an annoyance about a lot of games. Like I said, I'm not trashing this game, but I probably am one who likes the traditional mario formula more than drastically branching out. Who knows. Also, the paradox of criticism most likely stems from two different masses of people complaining: there are some who want the game to never change, and some who want some drastic reinvention every single time, but since they are both faceless internet crowds, it's hard to distinguish between them.

I loved the game. Zipping along the lakes and oceans with a water powered jet pack was an awesome experience. To me this game is a summer vacation game just like FF: Advanced Tactics 2. Being a Floridian myself I just wished our beaches were this beautiful otherwise I'd actually go.
AMAZING
this game got me into gaming in the first place, i never even completed it and I loved it to bits, however good any game has been since it still lacks the charm of that stupendous game!!!

I may be one of the few on this, but I adore that game. It still stands as my favorite Mario game that I have played. 64 was good for its time, but it just didn't age well at all, and Galaxy was an amazing game, it was just far too easy and didn't have the same charm for me.

It's a bit out of place, but it still works. It was quite a good game, overall. The platforming was pretty good, too. Some of the best offered for the 3D environment, second only to Galaxy. The sides, the extras, the tools, the paint-mario clone as a baddie to chase, the lot. I was quite happy with it.

I liked Super Mario Sunshine, myself. The platforming was fun, the premise fairly interesting and, best of all, the game was HAPPY.

My only real problem with it was the camera, which was a bit wonky at times.

Loathe it. It's the worst mario game that is not educational. Give me mario 64, or any of the mario rpg's any day of the week over it. In a franchise where we got solid gold for all the other titles, this one is brass at best.

I loved it, a lot, a LOT. I used to spend hours just hopping and hovering around Delfino Plaza listening to that fantastic soundtrack. I loved the colourful island, it's my favourite Mario game ever. And I do like the other Mario games, but this one was just so delightfully colourful and refreshing (something you don't often get in a Mario game), it still makes me smile.

Also, SMS has the best incarnation of the Mario tune EVER:

Super Mario Sunshine is awesome. It had a happier feel for the most part. The stages were fun to play on and didn't feel strange (like galaxy)

In my opinion, it's one of the better 3D Mario games, though it certainly isn't without its flaws. There was some parts where the "cleaning" mechanic felt tedious, and the final stage/ending was really anticlimactic.

Remember Mario 64? That final Koopa's Road stage, leading up to the final battle with Bowser? Pretty epic, I always thought. Corona Mountain, on the other hand... Well, it's definitely one of the most challenging stages in the game. To survive, you have to use every skill you've learned and a few more that you'll have to improvise. That said, it's still a very short stage, and not much of a build-up at all.

To put it short, I'd rank it higher than Mario Galaxy, but lower than Mario 64.

It was absolutely brilliant. It might not have stood up to the near-perfection of some other Mario titles, but that doesn't make it bad.

Also, the FLUDD was not just a gimmick. I really tire of that argument.
