So, basically, 'What's your favourite film?'. Dull question.

Children of men is a good one, though.
Not really. "What film do you own that would make the most impact on the future?" is more appropriate. For instance, say, for convenience's sake, that your favorite movie is Dragonball Z: The Dead Zone. Do you really think it would be more appropriate to save that or, for example, The Seventh Seal in a situation such as this. Which one has broader appeal? Which is more likely to make an impact? In a world where almost all fiction has been destroyed, which do you want future people to base their stories on more?

As for practical application of this question, one could argue that we are talking about which films we consider that are, or might become, classics.

If society was collapsing and everything going into straight up madness, movie would be the last thing on my mind.
Hypothetical situation is hypothetical. Go with it.

Gangs of New York. Future generations must know of Daniel Day-Lewis, and how fantastic of a performer he is. Seriously, have you seen There Will be Blood? If only I had that on DVD.

Waiting for Godot. No, not the play. I mean the experimental film that is literally just hours of a blank green screen.

Eat that, society.

I would bring my box set of Bottom Live. If I can only bring one disk, then I pick "2001 - an arse oddity"

I'd preserve season one of Red Dwarf through the ages.

In fact I think a lack of Red Dwarf would be the only thing powerful enough to bring civilsation to its knees.

The Shawshank Redemption, of course!!!!

The idea of being free or imprisoned belongs in the eyes of the beholder.

Can I save my external hard drive instead then, since I've only got like 3 DVD's?
If I had a DVD though, it would be between one of the Pirates of the Carribean movies, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or Gran Torino.
I CAN'T CHOOSE! D:

The Woodstock concert film. Or possibly Fantasia.

Pink Floyd's Live at Pompeii. Pink Floyd + Pompeii + ...art...stuff. Yeah. That should be a pretty good overview of what our world was about. Or at least what I'd want to remember of it, anyway.

Ugh, so many to choose from... they would probably be all destroyed before I could make a decision.
