A 2003 Sci-fi compliation book, Cthulhu Mythos (some by Lovecraft, some inspired by) and 1984.
If you are into Lovecraft I recommend The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath.

So tell me Escapist forum community, what books are we reading as of now? Or what books look interesting and you want to get a hold of?

I'm trying to get a hold of Angels & Demons to find out what the frick the Illuminati is. Ifm also looking into the rest of that whole Da Vinci code series thing. Also, reading Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe for class.
ew. Angel and Demons? thats a horrible book. allmost as bad as davinchi code. anyway i'm really loving book twelve of th weel of time and i honestly say its the best fantasy series around. mostly because all the characters are so damn well handled. I'm also giving the 2 mass effect books a read and have got mogworld preordered.

Right now I'm going back and forth between the Gaunt's Ghosts Omnibus by Dan Abnett (Abnett rocks!) and the Necronomicon: a large collection of H.P. Lovecraft's works.
There is also an old adventure game based on the book

When the Wind Blows by James Patterson. It's easily one of my favorite books, I've read it 6 times. I don't know if this counts as reading a book, but I got Brisingr on audio CD. I like getting audiobooks for work, so it's not so quiet all the time.

"The Year of the Flood", by Margaret Atwood.

It's pretty much about the downfall of civilisation - first gradually collapsing under it's own corruption and suppression and child prostitution and organized crime and whatnot - and then by a horrible virus that murders everyone and is euphimistically referred to as the Waterless Flood.

I'm currently reading The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster - just finished City of Glass. Insanely slick piece of metafiction. Three detective stories, all very noir-esque. Trying to figure out all the ways in which the author is subverting the author-reader-protagonist relationships could cause chronic insomnia and mild hair loss.

You know you're in for a good read when, at the end of the first chapter, a stranger phones the protagonist asking for a "Detective Paul Auster". o_O;

Also slowly (mostly because I'm lazy) but surely working my way through Terry Pratchett's Reaper Man.

The Necronomicon, by H.P. Lovecraft.

It's a good read, but so far the stories seem kind of samey. I'm on The Nameless City.
I have a feeling I'm getting it from my girlfriend for Christmas. :)

Go read Dune and then try and tell me Wheel of Time isn't a complete rip-off. I dare you.

"Cannary Row", by Steinbeck. I just finished it today, and I have to say, I'm a little dissapointed. There isn't a particularly strong plot taking the reader through the novel. In "Grapes of Wrath" we had a road trip to California, in "Of Mice and Men", we had the increasing difficulty of protecting Lenny. In Cannery Row though, there is just a few incompetant bums trying to organise a party, and a few other little vignettes. I don't think it works quite as well, despite the intriguing cast of characters.

Brave New World > 1984. It doesn't help that 1984 gets referenced to death, and that whenever a political partisan wants to press a point, they'll start throwing terms like "Orwellian" and "thought crimes" around like there's no tomorrow.

Under the Dome by Stephen King. Great book, but if the bad guys don't get what's coming to them I will never buy a book by him again. Seriously, the main bad guy reminds me of Simon Cowell.

I'd like to read some H.P Lovecraft. And every single book ever written by R.A. Salvatore.

For now, I have to content myself with reading my global history textbook at breakfast.

(I used to read my sister's because it was there, but it wasn't quite advanced enough, so I dragged mine downstairs.)
