So tell me Escapist forum community, what books are we reading as of now? Or what books look interesting and you want to get a hold of?


I'm trying to get a hold of Angels & Demons to find out what the frick the Illuminati is. Ifm also looking into the rest of that whole Da Vinci code series thing. Also, reading Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe for class.

I had to read Things Fall Apart. We had three books to read for class and I thought it was the weakest of the three...

I'm currently reading The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegut and just finished reading Heat Wave by "Richard Castle" as a tie in to the show Castle on ABC. Its a very, very quick read but entertaining. And a good piece of meta-advertising.
Before that read 'Death by Black Hole and Other Cosmic Quandaries' by Neil deGrasse Tyson

3 very different books, but all better than the "required reading" we have to read for school.

OT: Azincourt! It's a fictional war story set back in the medieval times. The 1200s, or 1400s? Anyway, it's quite boring so I wouldn't recommend it.
(I'm already half-way through, why stop now? T_T)

Wolves of Calla, The Dark Tower - Stephen King.

Absolutely FANTASTIC series.

I'm with you there. I haven't read any different author by stephen king since I read The Enemy by Charlie Higson. Currently I'm reading his latest epic, Under the Dome. It's amazing, then for christmas I'm hopefully getting another one.

As for McCarthy I would say to check out:
Suttree (Keep in mind, this book is HARD to wrap your mind around)
All the Pretty Horses
The Road
No Country for Old Men (If you haven't seen the movie)

Most all of his Discworld series (especially Night Watch, Small Gods and Thief of Time). That said my comment was kind of tongue in cheek because I really don't have an author thats such a favourite I could say they were the greatest ever. Have to look into McCarthy though.

Living Dead in Dallas by Charlaine Harris. It's a Vampire Mystery novel. The vampires act like real vampires, burn when exposed to sun, have actual personalities and don't sparkle.

I'm reading Prayers For the Assassin by Robert Ferrigno, at the moment.

It's good stuff. Well written, rounded characters and excellent pacing.
