People have gotten so used to the way things are now that they no longer want to deal with split screens because it may lower their visual range and they might not get as many frags in Halo... oh wait i forgot! New kids on the block frat boy gamers like to use "Kills" or "Pwns" and no one really says Frag anymore...
I loved playing Golden Eye and Perfect Dark on my N64 with my buddies.

Online doesn't really cut it either. Sometimes I'd rather play on a small screen with a couple of friends rather then half the retards and 7 year olds the internet can supply.

The only thing i don't miss though is the punches when you were kicking everyone ass... i can still feel the punches... ow..

Split screen has been replaced with the most revolutionary and greatest way of gaming ever. Playing it on the Internet or Lan. What's wrong with you people? Split screen was good in it's time (I had loads of fun with Golden eye for the 64 as well.) But it's obviously a video game feature of the past.
Stop bitching about the past and embrace the possibilities of the future!
How anti-social. Have you never got some friend around, had a bit of a drink and played some 4 player multiplayer?
Predator mode on split screen <3. I was a bit drunk and I was screaming at the feral guy when I saw him following me and this other guy I was hiding out with. Excellent fun.
I have played 4 player multiplayer and it's alot of fun. But I can honestly say I'd rather do it in a Lan party with multiple machines, or on the internet with voice chat. Split screen is just a lesser option, finally being washed away. At least in the majority of games.

I'm beginning to miss the split screen.
While it may be far more comfortable with a whole screen when playing with friends, I just don't get the same kinda feeling anymore.
We used to gather at the TV and play together, it used to feel like something social.
Now everything feels distant and dull.

Oh do shut up. The main reason that consoles exist is to allow multiplayer in the same room - if we give that up then theres no point to their existence.
There's obviously still valid reasons for their existence, some people prefer console controllers to a mouse and keyboard. As well as franchises made only for the consoles. Take the Mgs series for instance. Thinking consoles only live for their multiplayer options is quite foolish to say the least.
Nah I'm sorry, but when a console game offers a multiplayer mode it really should back it up with split screen. Some of the best enjoyment I get from gaming is watching my friends reactions after a humorous/epic kill/suicide. Online just isn't the same (not that I don't still enjoy it of course).
Well, you can obviously get your friends together and do that like you did in the early days.
What I'm saying is that it's an inferior feature that should not be implemented in future games.

Maybe Malvoo doesn't have any real life friends who will come play games with him? So he has to have online multiplayer to play with people?

Personally, I enjoy computer gaming as a social event. Especially drinking social events. Cider + Computer games just works somehow.

EDIT: bah, should have refreshed the page before posting!

Wait hold on... Farcry 2 isn't going to have split-screen multiplayer?
the dudes over at the far cry 2 forum condirmed it. its lucky the single player is amazing
Damn... I'm probably not going to bother getting it now. And it was doing so well...
What's the point in a map maker if you can't test it out with friends?
dont give up on it man at least the single player makes up for it

No! I have no most anticipated game! Farcry 2 is dead to me!

And Honestly Malvoo... do you not have friends to play splitscreen with or something?
If I had a choice between playing with some thirteen year old who calls me a ****** for three hours or my awesome, drunk friends. I'm going to pick the latter.

Try setting up a LAN party when you're shitfaced. Plus, you need multiple consoles and tv, plus it takes so much longer to get ready. You might as well just sit at home on your own and play randomers on XBL if you're going to do that in my opinion.

Sad? Have you ever even gotten drunk with friends at all? It's a right laugh. Even more so when the guy who was beating you in Halo 2 ends up drinking too much and collapses.

But unless you have massive rooms in your house, or just lots of space to put extra tvs (I'm guessing you have a tv in every room or something?) its not worth it. And if I'm gonna have a lan, I'll do it properly and have a PC lan where everyone will have their PC all networked up. Now, I've been to lan consul parties, adn yes they are fun. But then we have 15/16 of us between 4 360s, so we had to use split screen. Image trying to get 16 people with 360s, let alone cramming them all into one house?

Oh, and whats wrong with partying while playing games? You're the one that came onto some internet forums and started debating why we don't need split screen anymore due to internet gaming. We're all geeks here, and you shouldn't be calling anyone "sad" :p

This. Even Guitar Hero is hilarious. Once you stop playing, the room looks like it's moving towards you. It's only a matter of time before someone falls over.
I don't mean a full on house party obviously, just having a few friends over with a fair bit of booze.

I don't think there are people who never drink with their friends, but tbh i prefer to be sober when i game. I like to compete, and i like to progress. As for drinking, I'd rather do that in a bar with friends, or at a get-together.
And i hate the Halo series. Played the first and second(Barely holding my disgust), Didn't even bother with the third.

See thats all fun until your interna\et goes down, or eliteists that play the game 26 hours a day take over most severs and your stuck sucking balls while getting owned until you want to commit suicide, I like split screen cause it brings you together, shoot I have had my freinds get together to raid together on WoW because its easier for us to talk to each other in the same room instead of voice/text chat.

If I wanted to play a game seriously, I would run through Condemned or Half-Life on single player. The only game I've completed on co-op was Perfect Dark Zero with my ex.
When I've got friends around, I just want to have a bit of fun. Nothing wrong with that surely?

I always thought the answer is that, if you got rid of local multiplayer, you'd get the extra money from the 3 (hypothetically) others who'd have to buy a console, and perhaps subscription.

You seem to think that playing a game with friends isn't considered a get together, it is.

Just because you discuss gaming features in a forum doesn't mean your a geek(Not saying that I'm not.) What annoys me though is that everyone are claiming me to be anti-social because i don't support split-screen mode in future games, while also being the only one who doesn't play video games while he gets wasted. :p
Seems a little odd yeah?

The PS3 is capable of using up to 8 controllers at one time. XBOX 360 can have up to 4 and yet Wii appears to be the only game actively making good use of its multiplayer.

I don't understand it, me and my friends used to happily play Goldeneye on a television half the size of the one I had now on 4 player mode and it was amazing, cracked it out a while ago and we still had loads of fun, as we did Mario Kart.
So I am truly baffled when new consoles (especially) like the PS3 offer the use of more controllers in a day and age when TVs are twice the size they used to be and still fail to make more than a 2 player game once in a while and offer no split screen multiplayer support.

I really don't think it is just me, but I used to have a LOT of fun playing with my friends (in the same room not online...) on the same game.
Apart from my anger at the lack of 4 player I don't think its that much to ask for a co-op mode on some games even if it seems unrealistic as it makes games more fun, resistance offered on the PS3 and it was awesome, I could have seen it being a lot of fun on other titles as well.

I don't really expect an answer to my question perhaps I just wanted to vent some rage on the matter and if the new timesplitters doesn't offer 4 player multiplayer with bots I may cry like I did when I was a kid and all my lemmings died.
I still play 4-player Goldeneye!
