Easy. Crush 40. They're a little more well known, but most have never heard of them considering they're only really doing music for Sonic games.

A few bands that I'm fond of that I think a few people here might like.

The Apathy Eulogy has several CDs out, and did tour awhile back, but they've been playing alot of local gigs lately around Maryland, which is where they are from.

The other two I just found a couple days ago. I suggest giving them all a go, you might be pleasantly suprised.

Indie/Acoustic:
The Apathy Eulogy
The Scene Aesthetic
He Is We

Not sure what it would go under, but also check out the band....

Making April, they have a CD out and a new one coming soon.

Deicide and At the Gates are two death metal bands that no one around here has ever heard of. Course, no one has heard of any death metal around my area. But even a lot of people on the internet dont know about them it seems.

Do Make Say think - preeminent post rock band from canada. canada churns out some of the best post rock this decade
Giant Squid - awesome sludge band out of somewhere in america. definitely check them out, really great stuff, the singer is amazing
Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Wrote the book on Post rock. also from canada
Gojira - awesome death/grove metal band from france. very deep lyrics, from mars to sirius is one of my favorite metal albums of all time. pretty good album art to boot
Mogwai - another preeminent Post Rock band, but not as atmospheric as GY!BE.
My Bloody Valentine - Greatest Shoegaze/Dreampop group to grace the face of the planet. Get loveless, crank up the volume and enjoy wall of sound.
The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - just released their ST album. if you enjoy the shoegaze above, then this will not let you down. a bit more pop sounding, but great still.
Pelican - Best post-metal group. period. Isis may be the posterboys, but this is where its at.
A Silver Mt. Zion - great experimental rock group with members of GY!BE. thier first full album is a bit more experimental than 13 blues.
Silversun Pickups - Great shoegaze band. I have not removed their latest album off of repeat since it came out.
A sincere handshake to you, sir.

While They wouldn't be(and haven't been for 15 years) obscure for Canadians, The Tragically Hip are a great band that few outside the great white north have heard of.
While they're most recent albums haven't been that groundbreaking, they're early work is amazing. Albums you play all the way through from start to finish. I'd recomend checking out "Up to here" (first album, pure blues/rock) "Road apples" (second album, developing unique style), and "Fully Completely" (The Album they settled into their sound, and the point they started having to play to 20,000 seat shows instead of smaller venues).

If you like those, then try out "day for night" and "trouble at the henhouse".

Steve Vai? As in the guitar legend who inspires most of the solos i write? That guy is huge to the point that Ibanez made a Steve Vai Series guitar.

Flogging Molly is a good Irish-American punk band that is below the radar to some of my friends.

PS - If you're an avid fan of ANY of these bands, feel free to friend me ;D.
Fucking love Fugazi! It's true, nobody has heard of them, only the groups they influence.

My favourite band are My Ruin. They're a cult kinda band, people who know them love them, getting the front woman Tairrie B tattooed on them, that kinda thing. An ex editor of Metal Hammer called her fat so she wrote a song called 'Letter to the Editor' which contained the lyrics "I think you're just a ***** who doesn't deserve to suck my dick". She's a classy lady =P And the guitarist Mick Murphey is just INSANE. They used to be a bit more industrial but nowher days they are full-on Southern Metal. The Brutal Language and Throat Full of Heart - awesome albums, check it out!
