What's keeping the West from making DOAX style games?

Case in point Rockstar, the company with a notoriety for controversy could be capitalizing on the fact that there is an audience of desperate fans who had been badly burnt by an increase of censorship in Japanese games and being denied the more lewd titles. I mean it is the perfect way to take Japan's patented fanservice games and make them even better.

Seriously, they can do what KT can never do, bare frontal nudity.

But yeah why can't the west make something like DOAX despite having shit like HBO?

So I might look derisively at someone else who said this, but the west has hang ups about sex. One of the big ones related to this topic is that we don't pay for porn.

If I had to guess, because it doesn't sell. While the games generate controversy and discussion, they don't make money.

That and the fact that, despite all the hustle and bustle, there isn't a freaking audience for it.

...There is quite a bit more to Rockstar's games to T&A for it's own sake.
That's something a lot of people tend to confuse with Adult games and "Lewd" games, in the latter, the lewdity is the main focus, like in DOAX 3 where the main gameplay is watching women have "Wardrobe Malfunctions".
Meanwhile, naked women appeared in both GTA 5 and Witcher 3 but they were rarely the main focal point, even in missions and quests that featured them.

I get the point that you are making, but I don't think Rockstar games are going to start making Criminal Girls 3 just because of perceived censorship of those titles.
Besides, the issue a lot of those games run into is more related to major retailers like Walmart and Sony refusing to stock "Adult Only" titles.
THAT'S what would be what you'd want to focus on.

Shit, what's keeping the East from making them? Have you played that shit lately? I used to love that series, but then they realized they could make about as much money by jiggling tits and sort of letting the "fighting" aspect die a miserable death. I suspect that I'm in the mainstream of people who prefer my jiggling tits on women, not sprites or 3D models, as baffling as I realize that must be to some here.

A Tall fandom. In other words, fans who would gladly purchase multiple copies of a single game to offset the usual losses of a niche game.

Let is sink in for a moment, there was a 3d poser H game on the unity engine that sells for 92 USD. That is how much people who wanted a H-Game would pay for, and not including the DLC which could set you back 160 USD.

The fandom doesn't have enough money, and they're a business, not a charity. Why would they depend on the uncertain charity of shut-ins when they could actually seek a market with potential and a future?

But DOAX or beach volleyball never had fighting anyway. If you mean DOA as in the fighting game series then 5 is still a thing and pretty damn good probably the best DOA game ever made imo and a damn good fighter to boot that is still supported. I dont know what they will do for 6 though it just feels unneeded at this stage as I am not sure there is much more they can do with it atm as any visual improvement will likely be miniscule while the core gameplay remains the same which can be and is tweaked through patches.

As for why the west doesnt make these type of games or at least in a way Japan is seen to I guess its just a culture thing. The west tends to go towards explicit violence while Japan goes toward sex and since the western market is much bigger than Japan and violence is much more excepted in games in general than sex since its basically been one of the key ways to interact with a game for a long time then I guess if you want to make big money off controversy violence is much more profitable than sex.

It must be noted though that DOA does not have nudity sure some of the costumes are a little risque especially in the beach volleyball series but there is never any nudity. If it did have that I am unsure if it would increase or decrease sales but I am sure it would decrease DLC costume sales. Strangely I think I have played more western made games that feature full frontal nudity than Japanese ones and its not always done in a way many would find tasteful but I gotta say I have never been bothered by it.

Cough, I suppose that people forget that people actually TRIED to do that. On IPod so can't go get links but there was at least on volleyball game that came out around DoAX or X2.

If I had to actually guess, brand. The girls are well known and dress skimpy to begin with. It rather easy to make the jump from that to volleyball swimsuit antics. Outside of Mass Effect(Mmm Tali) I can't think of any western game that has the "sexiness" that DoA already had to work with on top of the name.

They have actual stripclubs in GTA so who knows. My guess is erotica and porn get mixed up too often here and people don't want that stigma attached to their resumes.

Because no one got the creators to declare Beach Volleyball to be 'Not Sexist', thus is must be sexists.
This. The west has an preponderance of puritanical punditry making sure any such game would sink on sight.

This, probably more so then the prudish bit. I remember when the last Dead or Alive shit storm started, and everyone was complaining about 'censorship' and 'stupid western puritanism,' and no one seemed to be able to accept the simple statistical fact that no one was buying the fucking things.

The West's problem with sex is a real thing, to be sure, but it's helpless in the face of pure, unadulterated capitalism. If EA or Activision or one of the Japanese companies could make money in the US with a shameless, big budget titty extravaganza, they sure as shit would. But they can't - Even though sex appeal is a massive part of gaming, they've found that there is a point of over-saturation, where much like the spine of a well endowed woman, the sales of the game sag and breaks if you try to cram too much boob in there.

I bet you not even three of the people on this site who protest that "its all the prudes' fault" have ever imported these Japanese lewds.

I'm a prude, so that's my excuse. What's yours?

Oh right.

It's because they're not fun.

And damned expensive.

Honest question: how does DOAX compare with HBO? I don't watch HBO so I have no idea.

Because they are niche here. They are also the product of a bygone era, where titillation was rare and hard to find, so hormone filled teenagers had to get it from anywhere, like renting Heavy Metal, pirating Playboy, playing Leisure Suit Larry or sharing your older brother Penthouse collection.

With Internet at our disposal, there is erotica everywhere. Even youtube has adult-like content that can be accessed with a 18+ years account... For the Internet savvy newer generations, it is harder to miss than to find, so the idea of companies investing several thousands or millions of dollars to provide that content is dumb business decisions.

snipped the unnecessary

That's laughable. Japan has violence that would make your eyes bleed, and the West has sex that would offend a Japanese salaryman on a bender. You need to move beyond inaccurate talking points.

I never mentioned nudity or taste, just that they suck.
