the state makes plenty of money (we just spend more than we make). i have lived here over 20 years and have never experienced an earthquake of note (i slept through one if that counts but nothing broke or even moved on the shelves). housing prices are actually really cheap right now but you are right in the fact that overall they are more expensive but what people tend not to hear is that californians get paid more for the same job. a job with a salary of 60k can earn you 70-80k here in californiaHankMan said:Well you answered your own question right there in the OP GAY cali bastards.
Also the state has no money, earthquakes, housing prices are insane.
And what the guy above me said.
This might be what has most under-18 men pissed off, but its hardly the underlying reason for California's systemic problems and challenges.Soviet Heavy said:Its Da Gohvanahta's stupid anti gaming law that has most people pissed off.
Oooo! Where's that? It reminds me of the area around San Gregorio State Beach, but it could honestly be anywhere...loc978 said:That said, it's not all that bad if you stay away from the major cities and military bases. much of the coastline is still rural, and absolutely gorgeous.

New Jersey has absurd real estate values and high property tax, so there!ewhac said:As a resident of the San Francisco peninsula, my view is that CA's biggest problems are its decaying public infrastructure and obscene real estate prices. Where else can you be expected to pay $500,000 for a 1200-square-foot condo? Or $1000/month for a studio apartment?
Curiously, both problems may find their root in our artificially low property tax rates, rolled back some 35 years ago under what is colloquially known as Proposition 13. Without the tax revenues, public school funding dropped through the floor, and had to be made up from the general fund. And without the taxes, there was less counter-force to real estate prices going up. Result: Public services and infrastructure are perennially under-funded in a State where it's absurdly expensive to live.

Ah, yes, the water problem. You are correct in that it hasn't really been addressed. I believe Redwood City has a moratorium on all new construction not replacing existing construction, as their water allotment is exhausted. KTEH's mini-series, "Cadillac Desert" covered California's story of water very well.Wolfenbarg said:...the water crisis wasn't solved or even really addressed while I was living there. [ ... ]
Unfortunately, you also have Chris Christie as Governor.Dags90 said:New Jersey has absurd real estate values and high property tax, so there!
We have cheap gas though, and you don't even have to pump it. Of course, New Jersey has better schools and we weren't hit as bad by the housing market collapse because of the high property tax rates.
I believe we were lost while making our way back to 101 on our way back from Shelter Cove at that point. I may be misremembering, though.ewhac said:Oooo! Where's that?
