Short version: Cuz it sucks.

Long version: On its own, the Xbox One isn't a bad system, now that they've removed the most glaring of its issues. Matter of fact, if they'd remove the ridiculous Live Gold paywall between the user and 98% of the internet content, I would go so far as to call it pretty damn good on its own.

Unfortunately, it's not on its own. It has to compete. And it's primary competition is not only priced $100 less (supposedly because it doesn't force the user to also purchase a hardware addon that nobody asked for), but also performs better according to every report out there.

By every objective measure, it's an inferior console. The only way it could potentially be superior is in the game lineup, and that's very much a subjective thing. Personally, I'm a bit more interested in the Xbone's exclusive lineup, but it's not $100 extra interested.

Many of your responses to problems made it seem like you think I should make compromises for Microsoft so their product fits me.

That's not how it works. If someone selling something they have to give me reasons to want it. It's not a game of me having to think of negatives to avoid buying it.

I like to think that I coined the term Xboner about three microseconds after seeing the xbone's announcement. I know everyone else coined it just as fast, but I feel like I did it first.

Neither the ps4 or xbone will have kerbal space program so its all really a scrabble for second place, in my book.

It's not worse now, but it's 100 more expensive, comes with a camera no body wants, worse hardware as far as I'm aware and doesn't cater to gamers, mostly going for the all in one experience as they keep putting it. Also I think the PS4 gives more features without buying the PS+.

Also I don't know if it still has the problems of only being released in fewer countries and always online. Can't remember if they got rid of them.

And something you haven't seemed to grasp OP, you ask why people don't like it, they give you good reasons, shitty camera, worse specs etc etc. It doesn't matter if that's what you want, it's what other people don't what and that's what you're asking about. Your opinion really doesn't matter nor make theirs wrong. None of your science or arguing is really going to change that.

The biggest problem with Xbox One has nothing to do with the console itself. Rather, its biggest problem is that it represented an attempt at fairly radical changes to the business of video games, and people don't like change all that much.

Personally I see no reason to switch, costs more, not as powerful and doesn't have the games I want. It also uses an Xbox Controller, BLURRRRGH!

If however all your mates are buying Xbones and you like the exclusive franchises it's got, then more power to you. Doesn't mean I'm going to be throwing my money at Microsoft any time soon.

It was a DRM nightmare that was nothing like Steam originally.

Now it's just a regular console, with slightly shittier hardware than it's competitor but $100 more expensive because of a stupid camera that no one wants.

Many people want that "shitty camera" it has voice commands and MANY other features like Skype ect.

You know what also has skype? My phone. My tablet. My computer. My laptop. My TV. My iPod. I'm saying I have a half dozen devices that run skype, I don't need my game console to do it. I got the game console to play games, MAYBE to get netflix on it for the TV. I don't need anything else.

And as another commenter said, those voice commands don't work for those of us with accents. I'm Irish, I have to force myself to speak with a thick American accent to get most things to do a voice command and even then it doesn't work because I sound like someone doing an over the top Phil Hartman impersonation.

Here's the thing about it. The kinect would be fine if it were optional, but being tacked on and forced to be used is not what many people want. If they made it optional they could easily cut the price of the xbone to beat the PS4, but they won't. They've outright admitted the kinect costs as much as the entire console to make, so it's a pointless and expensive forced addition.

A. Steam is shit, as is any online DRM.

B. I don't see it as terrible, but it's inferior to the PS4 and WiiU. I judge consoles on the games. If the libraries are going to be similar to this gens, the PS4 is going to have the best games and the WiiU will have some fun games. Then there will be one title on the xbone I'll want, which does not make an entire console worth it.

Objectively speaking, I would argue that fits all the criteria for being worse. It's just not as horrible as it was before. Xbox One is now more "buying the more expensive car and losing the race" and less "being convicted of a crime you didn't commit".

Also, Xbone One will launch in 13 countries. PS4 will launch in 30. After looking over statistics for the last gen, I'd say this will not favor it for overall sales. PS3 had more sales in Europe than 360 did in every region not including North America combined. Figuring Brand loyalty, price, and the PR nightmare that Microsoft has to deal with, and I'd be willing to bet on a winner.

As for the Always Online, that has been fixed, but you still need to connect on Day One. Gotta get that patch to make it playable.

And yes, the only thing you need PS+ for is online play. Everything else is free. Hulu, Netflix, gameplay recording, and even several games are Free to Play online. These are all behind a paywall on Xbox One.

About the only game I think Xbox One might have on PS4 is Titan Fall. And I guarantee that will be on PS4 in a year.

And also I did a survey at my school (because of course if you do it here everyone will vote ps4 and make the survey have too many variables) so I did it at my school. Where not everyone is a hardcore gamer. The results were 75% xbox one and 25%ps4 we also made them give a reason why.(also if your wondering my school is a grade7-12 school.) The most common reasons were;

xbox one because it has the kinect (most said camera thingy)

Xbox one because it has exclusive Call of duty ghosts content.

Xbox on because its better for NFL( probably becuase of the built in fantasy foot ball and stuff)

Xbox one because it has voice commands

Xbox one because it has better exculsives



Ps4 because it has little big plannet

Ps4 because It has free online (they obviously didn't know about the new ps plus)

Ps4 because it is $50 cheaper ($50 in Where I live)

Ps4 becuase It has better exculsives

Ok, so, you took a survey from people at your school, non-hardcore gamers, specifically because they're non-hardcore gamers and that would get you "better results."

No, really, so what? You've proven that 3 times as many people in your school want an Xbox One over a PS4. Other then being about Xbox One over PS4, what does this have to do with the current topic?
You already accept that your school's people and we escapists have vastly different opinions - that's the main reason you surveyed them instead of us (BTW, in this particular instance, everyone voting PS4 would not be "too many variables," it would be just the expected result.) So what, you want to extrapolate their reactions onto ours and tell us we're wrong or something? Because you can't. Like, logically, you just can't.

And also, how many people did you survey, anyway? If you only managed 4 people, then the 75% doesn't count for much. If we're getting closer to 40 or 50, then you might have a bit more validity in your results - not that that would really count for anything, but at least you could use those results for something else besides.

With all that HydroFire has had to say about the 'advantages' of an Xbox One over a PS4, I have to ask... does anyone else here smell the troll? I mean seriously. 99% of the people here are actual gamers, myself included (to a certain extent), and have an opinion on what the Xbox One is/was/will be. Calling them wrong on their opinions is insane, childish, and useless. Opinions are like dirty socks. Everyone has some.

Myself, I own an Xbox 360, and more recently (within the last year) a PS3. I can safely say that I enjoy them both, and not just for their exclusives. What I do not enjoy is being told that the next Xbox is going to be better when it is clearly not for gaming in the first place. It's trying to be the center of the living room. "Hook me up to your tv, and you can watch tv, make a phone call, watch a movie (provided you have a Gold account, and enough $ in your digital wallet) and maybe then... just maybe... you can play a game"

Meanwhile, in the PS4 court, it goes like this. "Hook me up to your tv, and play a game already." See, Sony has a product that is technologically better than its' competitor. Microsoft is only in it because they thought they could compete. Sony has been dealing with video game hardware for a very long time (not as long as Nintendo). If the OP was old enough, they'd remember the complete failure that was the original Xbox. And that was designed almost as badly (aestheically) as the Xbox One.

All of that aside, lets think about the games. Yes, the Xbox One has Titan Fall. So what? PS4 has Infamous: Second Son. So what? It all depends on the type of games people play (CoD aside) and what they're happy to play them on. If you enjoy the Xbox One, then so be it.

OP: You keep asking for answers as to what makes it so bad. You keep getting answers and won't listen. If you won't listen, don't ask, get one for yourself, because that's what makes you happy, and draw your own conclusions.

I have seen threads like this in the past deliberately created for the purpose of invoking angered responses followed by warnings and suspensions with the OP going about their merry way, clean as a whistle given their frustrating ability to maintain a strong benefit of doubt. Thankfully the mods in those instances have caught on but I still do not feel even remotely comfortable mentioning that word, even when warranted.

OT: Despite my previous statement I will provide the benefit of doubt and merely say that I was apathetic to the XBone and everything that it did wrong has left a permanent bad taste in my mouth as I had no love for it to shield me from its blows. Lastly, Microsoft spent money developing its DRM, I have no guarantee that they will not up and decide to capitalise on that investment in the future. They now need to earn my trust and that is not a easy thing considering I already did not care for it.

75% and 25%? That's oddly square. Did you survey four people or something? Or did you do it at all, for that matter?

And anyway...why do you care about this so much? It isn't your money people are spending, so what business is it of yours? As much as I love ketchup, I don't spend hours at McDonalds trying to explain to people why they should use it with their fries if they aren't. I'm not getting the Xbone because I don't want to pay the extra money for a Kinect, I'm more familiar with the Playstation controller, and the PS4 is looking to have more of the games that I want. And you coming on here and telling me or anyone else that these reasons aren't good enough is just as ridiculous as me taking those reasons and saying you're wrong for wanting the Xbone. The always online requirement which will be disguised as "the power of the cloud," is bad enough in my opinion. In addition to that, Microsoft isn't a hardware manufacturer, which is something I learned after my fifth (counting replacements) 360 broke. Also pervnect.

I haven't read the whole thread so I might be repeating what others have said. I'm not interested in the Xbox 180 because of the priniciple. Ya and other people do. A lot of other people. Just because you dont doesn't mean others are the same. When faced between two fairly equal consoles, and one made by a company that treats consumers like shit, and the other that doesnt, the choice is fairly simple.
