People are pretty cool here. We skew towards the left politically, and religiously we have a lot of atheists, but there are only a few who are particularly loud or obnoxious about it.

Join date doesn't matter as much as interesting posts, being friendly, funny if you can. Basically, don't be a dick, and we shall welcome you!

OT: People around here are nice, friendly and enjoy banter. There are a free unsavory individuals at times but they get themselves banned soon enough. I would not worry too much about post count, it used to be the in-thing but user groups make it worthless. The date that you enter is not so important either, it just shows how many Great Eras of The escapist Forum you went through. On the date I joined was the, "Great and Terrible Era of Death" where Grammar Nazi's prowled the forums, followed by, " The Era of the Irish Invasion" which had a constant cry of "search bar, use the SEARCH BAR. Naming no names of course... they might hear me from the basement.

Wait, we have eras? I thought we just picked a topic, talked it to death, then got annoyed when someone innocently attempts to bring it up again later. Is there some sort of detailed chronology I can look up to tell me which Great Eras Of The Escapist Forum I've survived? Might be interesting to see if I remember any of it.

Of course we have eras. I can only remember a few details but maybe you can help me fill in the gaps.

I felt the same way when i joined up. Felt like i couldn't really contribute since i was new and stuff. But honestly, just provide well-mannered posts and no one even cares when you joined, as it should be. As for the community, i find it rather cynical sometimes, but what do you expect when its the site home to Yahtzee. Other than that, everyone is actually incredibly friendly, despite the odd arrogant person that will respond to a post of yours with some vile. but its easy enough to ignore and everyone elses' attitudes far outshines the occasional riff-raff.

We can, however, get a little bit into a "mob mentality", but that comes with most any forums on the internet. All I can tell you as far as advice is don't be an idiot and think the internet's anonymity is a suitable shield. That and lurk more. ALWAYS LURK MORE.
