People are people and people have varying opinions, but we're an inclusive bunch. We tend not to take too kindly to folks who arbitrarily impose divisions.

Very tribal in opinion and excessively passive aggressive. It makes for very little to discuss as nearly everyone here already agrees with everyone else so you end up with a lot of repeat threads and threads which require absolutely no intellectual intercourse.

....are we looking at the same forums? I've noticed that Escapists can disagree and have full-fledged debates or even rows about absolutely anything; we're a bloody argumentative bunch, but for the most part it stays friendly.

In all the time I've been here, it's not something I regularly see. The few who do go against the majority tend to either be blatantly fishing for reactions or get driven off in frustration. The disagreements and arguments I see on this website are over petty issues at best while the rest of the "debates" tend to be posts which feed off of each other to make themselves feel more intelligent. It's like watching people in one of my old college literature classes try to come up with a reason to disagree over something they already agree on because the professor grades on participation. Literally, the biggest divide on this website is whether or not you happen to enjoy watching cartoon ponies.

Of course, I've been posting on Internet forums and imageboards for well over a decade now, and the situation on this site is neither new nor unique to the Internet. Like-minded people tend to pool in the same recesses where opinions and conflict settle overtime to a community-wide norm. Especially on the Internet where it's so easy to wall one's self off from the world.

It's crazy to look back on the times I spent actually doing research for arguments on Internet forums. My opinions on a broad range of subjects changed as a result of all that because I had to understand what the guy's position or my argument would be flawed. Hell, I even learned to type because no one would take me seriously, otherwise. Here though, there's never any reason. It's all just rhetorical vomit written down so other people can agree with it and feel smart for agreeing.

Here, it's amazing. So much content to look into, badges to achieve, groups to socialize in.
Everyone is pretty intelligent here and will debate with you using a lot of facts rather then just spur out hateful things.

Late August this year, there was a whole lot of threads asking who would you save out of... if they were drowning, and then a variety of different options, often some combination of a pet and a stranger, though other combinations including a television and computer featured.

True. I know a lot of fans changed their avatars after they decided they didn't want to be associated with the "brony community".
