What's the last AAA game you played that wasn't part of a preexisting IP?

Kind of cheating but I played Destiny at a friend's place, I don't own it myself. I'm thinking of getting it now though, the new expansion seems to really make it a good game.
The Taken King fixed most of Destiny's biggest flaws. If you want to play in the Crucible, the old standard loadout[footnote]Exotic hand cannon, shotgun with Rangefinder or Shot Package, and rocket launcher with Grenades & Horseshoes.[/footnote] is no longer an absolute must. It is so refreshing to see scout rifles, auto rifles, and pulse rifles showing up in the kill feed. Right now, if Bungie could find a way to offer regular competitive play - custom lobbies, sponsored tournaments, and improved public matchmaking - Destiny would make a serious play for the title of best multiplayer shooter on a console.

Word of warning. The only dlc that matters is The taken king. Anything before that is a shell of what those expansions were. Im not sure if you need all the DLC to play the taken king. But it may be cheaper to buy the legendary edition that buying them all seperately. And aparently the phsyical copy is cheaper than the digital one.

If you are going to buy DLC. Do some research first.
Alright. Only reason I was considering the House of Wolves and the other DLC (can't remember it's name offhand) was for story purposes, so if they aren't exactly that essential I may get Taken King next paycheque then.
The Dark Below was decent, but it was definitely too short. The raid is great fun. My regular fireteam's among the tiny minority who actually run Crota's End legit every week-- we only ever cheese the raid if somebody needs to head out for work, or a new player keeps wiping the team out.

For what it's worth, I ended up getting a physical Legendary Edition - and the in-game Collector's Edition bonuses - for a cheaper price than the digital release. If you do decide on a 'complete' package, you'll find that patch 2.0 made the previous content slot into the vanilla game quite well.[footnote]The first mission of the Dark Below expansion - the Fist of Crota - is given quite early in the game right now. In the vanilla game, there were missions where you would visit locations that referred to Crota and Oryx, but it made no sense. That's no longer the case.[/footnote]

Is League of Legends AAA? If not, then... um... I played the first God of War in early August. I haven't played any current gen games.

Watch Dogs *Hides*.
Watch Dogs was a perfectly enjoyable game. If they hadn't over-promised (even lied) beforehand then there'd be no shame in this.

Midle Earth: Shadow of Mordor i guess, as far as i'm concerned it's not a sequel of anything and i enjoyed it quite a bit even though it was repetitive as hell, but somehow that didn't bother me.

Ni No Kuni and ZombiU. Oh, wait! The later is based on Zombi from several decades ago! Still, who the heck knew that when ZombiU was released?

For me, it would be Dying Light...

Then again, I haven't played it for several months... Waiting for Shadow of Mordor to go on sale a bit more... Because the AUD sucks... blargh...

Until Dawn, Evil Within, Last of Us and Splatoon.

Damn. I was sure there was more than that but the Triple A part threw me off. But to be honest:

Last three books I read were Star Trek or Hanibal Lector novels.

Last three movies in theaters were either Marvel or Mad Max related.

Existing IP is how we get dragged in. Comics wise I've been reading the same IP that have existed for at least 60 years.

It's not anything new. A successful IP gets onto the pop culture and we all watch/read/play/listen.

Lords of the Fallen.

I stopped playing it a week or two ago. Very similar to Souls, yet so... different. In a bad way. Attempted a second playthrough, but I don't think I'll do it.

Other than that... uh... oh yeah. Pillars of... wait, is that AAA? I guess it is. Pillars of Eternity! A month or so ago.

As sad as it sounds I think Assassins creed was the last one I played that would be "original". The first one... Yeaahhh I don't really play much AAA games...

Does the Fantasy Life count? I'm actually so out of touch with AAA gaming these days I have no idea what it actually takes to qualify as a AAA game.

If that doesn't count then I absolutely cannot remember, as the only for sure AAA games I've played this year have all been sequels (MGSV: The Phantom Pain), spin-offs (Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon), or remakes (Chrono Trigger for DS, Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1). Most of my free time goes towards Indie games nowadays.

Dragon Age:Origins. Before that, Borderlands. Before that, Mass Effect. All originals at the time they were released, of course, but have spawned franchises.

To find the last game I played that is not part of a larger universe... The Last of Us. But, I didn't even finish it. Before that, I think it would be Alpha Protocol. Which wasn't nearly good enough to deserve a sequel, anyway.

Man, for all the complaining people make about sequels and reboots and spinoffs, I really think that most of our best entertainment comes in multiple installments.
