What's the last AAA game you played that wasn't part of a preexisting IP?

Been playing this pretty awesome tactical strategy game. "Mythiventures (Heroes Tactics)

Kind of hidden on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.camexgame.heroes

It's like a mix of Final Fantasy Tactics, HOMM and Heroes Charge

Kingdoms of Amalur would be the last one I've played. I honestly don't see the comparison to Skyrim; it feels more like Fable or Divinity 2 made into a shitty MMO. It's dull; I can't bring myself to care about it.
Since people are saying Codename: STEAM is a AAA title then I guess that would be the last one I bought. Again I haven't played much of it since it had the misfortune to come out in the same year as MH4U.

Does it count if it wanted to become a huge new IP, but was a giant flop?

If so, then Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

Hmmm, I would have said divnity original sin but I dont think that qualifies as AAA even though the game has AAA quality in just about every aspect (if you havnt played it I highly recommend it, it was my #1 game of last year). Sooooo I think it would be watch dogs. Which was an ok game. Not revoltionary or evolutionary as the hype would have had you believe but it was just an all around good game about vigalantism in a near future world with hacking magic.

Before that...uh, well Bloodborne is a spiritual successor to Dark souls...Destiny is a spiritual successor to Halo...Dishonored is a spiritual successor to thief...Bravely default is a spiritual successor to Final fantasy...Fire emblem awaking is Fire emblem 5?...Shin Megami Tensai Devil summoner is...well Shin magami tensai...ok Im gonna stop there. Theres just to much derivitive work for me to give an honest answer. However to be fair thats what the AAA side of the industry does, they take an idea and refine it while creating a new game in a new setting

Actually the Divinity series stems from a rather high quality RTS series. If you liked the lore of Original Sin I highly recommend you give the RTS' a look (also assuming you like turn based RTS games, of course).

Evil Within for me. I don't think it's developer credentials or "spiritual successor" nature would interfere with that, and it's definitely a AAA game. Enjoyed it enough, wasn't ground breaking or anything but a good game with some very cool enemies and locales.

Other than that, just Watch Dogs. Which I also give more credit than it received, not getting riled up in the hype I actually found it a pretty cohesive little game with good shooting / hacking mechanics which involved a unique take on environment manipulation for advantage in shootouts/chases.

I would not consider Shadow of Mordor a new IP due to there being many LOTR games/movies out there already, however I think it stands on it's own merit as a unique game with good mechanics. Yeah they took the fighting from Batman like so many others have now, but they did something awesome with it.

Murdered: Soul Suspect. I'd actually like to see it get a sequel since it's one of those coulda-been's.

I think 'spiritual successor' applies if the games share the same dev/publisher. Which is the case with the Souls games and Bloodborne. Not sure about the others.

I haven't played anything from this generation yet (still waiting for the console prices to drop to £200).
As far as the previous generation goes, the most recent original AAA games I remember playing were Alan Wake (really good), Sleeping Dogs (also really good) and The Evil Within (not as good as the previous 2 but not as bad as a lot of people are claiming it is).

Last few? Bloodborne, The Last of Us, and Destiny.

There have been a decent number of new ones that have already spawned sequels. Dishonored, Borderlands and several others.

I know Doublefine isn't seen as AAA, but I'd count their games as AAA due to the quality of their work being so far above indie production. Indie as a title means so little with some studies.

Splatoon for me.

All the other games I played this year have been indies so they don't count by your OP standards.

Me neither, I think the newest game I have is Wolfenstein: The New Order on the PS3, which of course isn't a new IP.
I have The Last of Us and Dishonored (both fresh IPs) but haven't played them yet.

Dishonored.

I attempted a replay in February. Didn't get far before getting bored.

It's not a bad game I suppose, but it makes me want to play the game it could have been instead. Mostly it's just too fucking easy, with the player's various abilities being hilariously overpowered. Story is shit too. Setting was great though.

It's getting a sequel, naturally.
I really thought I was the only one with this particular view. So glad I'm not alone.

OT: Do MMOs count? Skyforge?

Otherwise I have no idea :(

Bloodborne. Before that, inFamous and Mirror's Edge if memory serves but I've probably forgotten something.
