What's the most broken game you have had the misfortune of buying?

Splinter Cell conviction...with ubisoft DRM. Couldn't play it and had to keep re-installing. Guess which loyal customer ubisoft just lost. I will NEVER play one of their games again.

RAGE on the PC.

MY CUNTING COPY STILL DOESN'T FUCKING WORK! GRAPHICS ARE FUCKED RIGHT UP THE ASS!

It has literally gotten worse for me since their so called fixes. I was really looking forward to this game and all I can say is that id can suck my balls because they're never getting another cent from me.

Dark Souls for the stupid "lightening" weapons and Skyrim for the ps3 problems. Both are relatively minor problems, however, and I am really quite lucky never to have bought a truly "broken" game.

Good news for you, there's a thing on most computers now called compatability mode. Might wanna look into that. You can have a computer run a program like a previous version would.

I played through Rogue Warrior because I read the books. I had never played a game before it or since that functioned as it should, but still did nothing right.

I tend to do a major check up on games before I purchase them. The games taken chances with and bought without any information have turned out to be pretty good.
Guess Skyrim would top the list. The bugs didn't really bother me though, apart from the game breaking glitch I had on my first character.
Don't regret the purchase and I will buy future releases from Bethesda. That their games comes with bugs and glitches is general knowledge, but we still love them!

Stronghold 3.....

I couldn't select units half the time, and when I could, I couldnt attack enemies because the cursor was fucked depending on how far in/out you were zoomed.

Random crashes aswell.

HOWEVER, I still love it because the game is now nearly all fixed after Firefly have used their best efforts to get the game playable over the past few months :)

Oblivion, far more broken than any of Bethesda's other games. It's the only game that ever made me clear the 360's cache, I didn't even know that was a thing. And I'm not just talking about the glitches, combat and leveling are insanely broken as well.

C&C4.

Oh wait, those were actually features, not bugs.

Hmm...then the PC version of Prototype.

Halo 2 on the PC was just woeful.

For a company desperate to sell Vista, they released it as "Vista Exclusive" (apart from the Xbox version of course) and had all that GFWL nonsense, but it seems they spent about half and hour porting it, hit the checkbox for "Vista" in the build options and clicked go.

It was buggy, laggy, with the UI right out of the 360 version but with a very badly implemented mouse overlay.

I can *almost* forgive leaving all the 360 control icons on the UI (wiggle LS now! press A! during gameplay and the various icons for the buttons on the menus) since you could plug in a 360 controller and use it, but the vagueness of the mouse controls just smacked of a dev team who simply didn't spend any time porting it.

You'd click your mouse on a UI element and it wouldn't do anything... you had to click slightly to the side and down from where you'd expect the button to be.

It was an exercise in frustration.

The fact that they nerfed the pistol into the ground and brought in regenerating health was just adding insult to injury.

Edit: I should also add C&C: Tiberian Sun on the PC way back in the old days. Absolutely dreadful.

C&C: Generals on OS X was also terribly broken - performance was really poor and the units were simply unbalanced in gameplay. The USA were just stupidly overpowered - get a humvee/APC, put snipers and rocket soldiers in it and just buzz it around in circles near enemy units. The speed kept it away from tank shells, the *insane* range of the snipers and their instant kill ability kept any infantry at bay, and the rocket soldiers killed the tanks and aircraft.

Build the tech building that halved the time required for promotion to elite status and you would have virtually unstoppable, self healing death wagons that could shoot things beyond the firing range of any other unit.

It's already been said, but Sims 3. The core game would just fail to load properly for me 80% of the time, leaving me with missing objects and random crashes when I tried to use something that hadn't loaded right. And don't get me started on the DLC >.>; I spent a few pounds buying new clothes and hairstyles (because the included collection was woefully small) and a new neighbourhood, and never once got them all to download and install correctly, so my game just refused to load. Then the core neighbourhood started doing the same thing, so the game would load with a load of floating houses and nothing else. I tried for about two months to fix it on and off but was completely unable to, and EA basically told me it was my PC's fault. I can assure them my PC is close to double the recommended spec, so if my PC is causing the problems, then their code is *broken*. I uninstalled it and am refusing to ever buy another Sims product.

In the non-technical sense? Modern Warfare 3.

Up until this game, I loved the series. One of my favorites.

But the multiplayer in this game just... doesn't work. Has the appearance of balance, but there is no longer any skill involved in gunfights. It's now just completely a coin flip. Lag is still ever prevalent, the shotguns for the most part are severely underpowered, Riot shields are somehow even less protective of you than they were in MW2, the maps are fucking atrocious in every single way, and why you would choose anything besides the akimbo machine pistols as your secondary is beyond me.

There was no testing in this game. None whatsoever. Sledgehammer, or whoever developed the multiplayer had absolutely no idea what they were doing. The spawn system will attest to that.

Up until now, the series had a certain flow to it. Never was balanced, but they worked. Competitive play was possible in the other games, but...This game just doesn't work. All the old CoD elements are there, but the game does not work. It's broken.

I can't play seriously. It I try to actually go out of my way to win a game, I will be livid by the end of the match. The only way I can kind of enjoy myself is by taking the worst combinations and running around with them.
