the M-16. considered the worst assault rifle in the world. any sort of melee with it would shatter the spring-loaded stock and the overly complex firing mechanism was a ***** to clean and jammed alot. the only reason it became the standard american infantry rifle was politics, "buy my gun and you get my vote". it was originally designed for MPs at stateside military bases
It's since been fixed though. Several times. Pretty sure that the M16 A4 (the most recent version) has most of the creses ironed out.
i know, i was just referencing the original. but i dont see what was wrong with the m-14
It was too light for its relative heavy ammonition. And it lacked a pistol-grip.
Both things that made it uncontrollable when firing full-auto.

The Desert Eagle. Always hated that thing. I'm half tempted to point out the Sten, but if nothing else it was successful. Something like 2,000,000 units, which is pretty impressive given that it was only used in one war.

Shit, beat me to it.

But yeah, like other people here, I have to say the Desert Eagle. Awesome looking gun, but in terms of practicle use, not so much. The purpose of the sidearm, as far as I know, is to serve as a backup should your main gun run dry, I fail to see the use as such for the DE.

And while the XM8 is a pretty bad weapon, I still think it looks cool... but I would stick with the M416 in BF:BC2 anyday...

Particularly anything pass the Colt 700 model number, they've had their design made as simple or as complex as the people using them needed them to be.

On topic tho': Anything 10 mm / If the .50 cal handguns are getting a bad wrap then the 10mm should win outright.
The 10mm has it uses.
The Danish army use the Glock 20 for their arctic units.
They changed to that after a polar bear attack where they found out that the 9mm dident do much against the big predator.

There is a saying in the armed forces of many countries. "Always remember that your gun was made by the lowest bidder!"

I can speak from personal experience and say that the SA-80 the average British Army soldier gets (as well as other-ground based units of the Navy and RAF) is a pile of wank. I've fired one a few times and can see why it was called the "Airfix Rifle". When I was at a weekend camp at Proteus in Ollerton (it's now closed and until recently was a fucking sweet airsoft skirmish site) with the ATC I recall seeing a sign by the discharge pit. It spoke of the SLR and the SA-80 (as both were in use at the time) and while the instructions were clear and to the point for the SLR, the SA-80's had an additional caveat that had the soldier check to make sure the mag wasn't about to fall out.

No wonder the SAS don't use it, instead preferring the M-16A2 (with M203 grenade launchers in many cases) or the Canadian equivalent, the C5.

The Beretta M92 had it's issues in the beginning but they got it sorted and it remains my favourite handgun of all.

Wardy
As well as the G36c and MP5 and TBH the SAS and SBS change there weapons to fit there specific needs not being given as strict codes for what weapons there allowed they are generally allowed what they need to get the job done.
Also as a user of the L98 A2 I think your summary is quite wrong the weapon is good when mantained propally and when you zero the sites in propally and learn to use and as for the magazine issue as long as placed in propally it should fine however most people either are to timid in inserting it are to aggressive slamming it in you need to be firm but not stab otherwise your just damaging the rifle.
Cause in the middle of a contact, you're heaps gonna be thinking about the exact pressure needed to insert the mag without damaging the weapon. You've pretty much proved that it is terribad.

$100 PER ROUND. Nevermind the issues with accuracy

And these... fired Triangular rounds at $40 a pop nowadays with horrible manufacturing problems.

Also, and I know I'm gonna catch a TON of flak for this, but fragmentation grenades and shotguns. They're both VERY situational,. and with the frag grenade you have as much chance of injuring/killing yourself as others if you don't use it properly.
And shotguns are pretty much pathetic if someone's more than 10 feet away from you.
Yeah grenades are dangerous to the user, but the people who use them are pros, trained in their use.

Have you ever used a shotgun? or is your knowledge of them gleaned entirely from CoD? In that game they are useless, but in real life with the correct ammunition and chokes they are capable of shooting a lot further than that. Mine certainly is, andthats just a basic over/under.

You take that back!(Automag fan! Don't actually know but I like the way it looks.)
Aieeee! Meant no offense. I said my piece about the Automag because, by my understanding, its malfunctions and it's high price tag caused it to be a commercial failure that put the company out of the running (to the best of my knowledge). If you want more fire to throw on the DE, it's popularity was the nail in the coffin for the Automag. :p[/quote]

I'm kidding. XD I understand that the original Automag, was the first semi-auto pistol to chamber the .44 magnum round. And you gotta give it props for that.

I'm not sure about absolute worst gun of all time, but the Desert Eagle is very much up there in terms in of impracticality and is ridiculously over-rated by the type of people that learned everything they know about guns from Modern Warfare 2.

And I'm guessing you're one of them. That's not a real DEagle.

edit: on closer inspection...I may be mistaken. Although the magazine doesn't look right...

As for worst gun? I'm not sure but I'm certain there was something worse than the M16 but probably less infamous.

edit2: No, that isn't a real desert eagle the magazine is wrong. That's a bb gun.

What about the musket? The gun that once fired it would be more practical to use it as a club? (in fact, some of them were designed in such a fashion that they would work better as clubs than firearms).

What's with all the hate on the Desert Eagle? Sure the .50 cal AE version is totally pointless as a sidearm, but the gun comes in like two other flavors (.44 magnum and .357 magnum).

Worst firearm in modern history: The M16/M4 and it's variants (not including the HK M416/417). Probably caused the deaths of more Americans than any firearm the enemy (if your in the US) ever used. Indirectly of course, but a jammed gun might as well be a bullet to the face.

And i'm also a little confused as to the hate on the XM8. The thing beat out all the other rifles in the US trials. That is to say, it beat the FN SCAR, Colt M4, and HK M416. Personally, I'd rather have a rifle that jams once every 10,000 rounds that one that jams ever time it see a speck of dirt or sand. (unless the issue is the NATO 5.56mm round, which is shit.)
