Im on My chemical romances site again and I start looking at random articles and I see one called, "Jesus I love warhammer" with a header picrure of some crazy giant mech suite with missile's and crap. And I said, well thats just fine (reference cookie?)

I play the warhammer online free trial when I am bored. The classes are all unbalanced and their are not a lot of high level players too tell you if the game is good or not because almost everyone is a trial. But why do I play? Orcs! Orcs are cool. You know how in the lord of the rings, they were pretty stupid, tribal, and bad ass, but in world of warcraft they were inteligent and knew Magic like some kind of pansy human? Orcs in warhammer are stupid, huge, and awesome. They mispelle words, and say tough things like "Oi git outta ere or wez gunna bash yo face in ya squishy git!" While other classes in the game have ability's like, "Shield of eternal fire" or something like that, orcs have ability's like "Oi, quit hittin me!"

And a while ago, I saw a thred on the escapist for best opening scene in a game, and a commen name to come up was warhammer 40k. I never played, or seen any gameplay for it, so I watched a trailer that someone posted. Its got that orcy goodness I love, now with flamethrowers and chain guns! Oh and the humans have chainsaw knives. Whatever.

On youtube... its not a video game... its a board game? It seemed... alot more nerdy. I know I shouldnt be talking but still, you know, they made and painted everey figurine. Mabye not my thing. Or it could be.

After checking the warhammer wiki, the lore is... facanating. Its so deep, which I love. Even my beloved orcs! They have a huge backstory! And its not like philosophical or whatever, their ancestors were just as brutal as their current versions.

I think i'm going to like warhammer. But which one? Warhammer online? The Boardgame? The video game? write fan fiction (I'm not that weird)

Any warhammer fans here? Tell us why you love it? I will virtually hug you if your a fellow orc lover.

im not a warhammer fans nor kno the whole idea of it but warhammer online is awesome for PvP and RvR... if you want to just quest and such its awful but use you trial to your advantage, tehre are LOADS of high level players but your trial just allows u up till lvl 10! Try the PvP out even at your lvl and you should enjoy it!! nothing better than seeing loads of players going crazy in battle haha!! Also the community is great! rare to get for a online game!!!

The warhammer 40k universe is way cool. I wish there was more games set in that universe. There should be a 40k mmo coming out though, but not much info about it.

I mainly just pay attention to the warhammer 40k lore. I don't play the games or anything.
Also, chaos space marines are infinitely more awesome than orcs.

I'm a die-hard Warhammer: Fantasy table-top gamer, and I very much enjoy Warhammer. 40,000. I do NOT enjoy the PC games, and I find myself annoyed at anyone that thinks its just a series of PC games and doesn't know about the table-top game =p. I do enjoy that the PC games recruit new table-top gamers tho, but the fact that 90% of them end up playing Space Marines pisses me the hell off, they are the lamest faction on Warhammer: 40,000 XD.

I myself own a store that specialize on Warhammer, the table-top games. I ADORE it, and I urge you to check it out at your local store, which I'm sure exist.

Orc? ORC? ORC?

What da grots a orc? We iz da ORKZ, da biggest an da meanest gits in da galaxy, all da other races ain't worth a squig compared ta one Ork!

Orc? Pah! We's oughta make us a WAAAAGH for dis, kill us some hummies till dey learn ta spell us names right.

Seriously though, I love the Dawn of War series myself, both 1 and 2. If you even remotely enjoy RTS and have a gaming PC, you *must* look them up.

Oh, goody! A chance to rant.

Well, I'm an Imperium guy myself, since I love the idea of leading a vast army of Guardsmen into battle against whatever incurs my wrath (and lo, shall my grudges be petty). Me, I came to like Warhammer 40k because of its vast, dark setting. I'm not a depressing person on the average day, but I've always enjoyed the violent, dark setting where there's really not black and white, but rather black and increasingly dark shades of gray. For instance, I'm always interested in the Imperial Inquisition, because they're like the CIA mixed with, well, the Inquisition. They may have noble goals (to them), but many times they're forced to do terrible things to reach those goals (for a good example, read Dan Abnett's "Eisenhorn" series).

I like how 40k shows some seriously epic conflicts while still allowing individuals to be seen as heroes, and to develop personalities all their own. Just look at the Space Marines, wherein everybody, and I mean EVERYBODY, is a hero in their own right, and yet you could have thousands of them on one battlefield. The Imperial Guard is full of soldiers possessing a peculiar type of courage which can only be found in men and women who wake up to hell every day and still fight- yet there are MILLIONS of them.

And, of course, my all-time favorite aspect of Warhammer is the backstory, as you said. The 40k universe isn't built around a specific storyline, but is instead structured as a universe in which you can make your own heroes and legends. Fun stuff, indeed.

So, that's my rant. Oh, and they've made pen-and-paper RPG's, if you can stomach some good ol' D&D-style murder and mayhem. Your mileage may vary.

Same here, I pay attention to the 40K lore for the most part myself. I'm pretty much Chaos undivided/Necrons with a healthy respect for the IG and of course, da Orks tickle me pink with their bloodthirsty antics.

With all respect, 90% of everyone who starts playing 40k plays space marines, it's like a plague!

I'm not being arrogant, I play Eldar so I'm being in character you see.

If the OP is interested then he should just pop in to a Games Workshop or an indie shop (better option) and watch or play a game. It the best way to see it and at my locals we always love intelligent new players.
Indeed. I am afraid I play Necrons, Eldar, Orks, Tyranids, Imperial Guard, Tau and (annoyingly) a small Space Marine force for 40,000, and for Fantasy I have Empire, High Elves, Dark Elves, Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts (from the old rule set), Chaos Mortals and Bretonnia. It's the curse of being addicted =p.

Boo Space Marines, yay other things!

You also mis-spell words. Stop doing it. You are not an Orc. Or an Ork for that matter.

Oi! Nice ta see annuver Ork round 'ere. Youz pretty smart ta realize dat da Orks is da best around! WAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!
Also its nice to see another potential GW hobbyist out there as well. It seems like you were first introduced to the Warhammer universe through the video games. I can't really comment on how good they are as I haven't really played them, but I can say that the board games are very fun if you can find someone to play against. But first I must warn you: Warhammer isn't something to be taken up lightly. As any other GW hobbyists can attest to, Warhammer and 40k require a lot of investment. First you'll need to buy the minitures which can be quite expensive for little pieces of metal and plastic. Second you'll need to assemble and paint your models which can take some time if you really want to get some nice-looking models. Finally you'll need to find someone else to play against and the time to play a game, which even a small one can consume several hours. So don't go into this expecting something you can just dabble with. But don't let me scare you off. Its a very satifying hobby whether you're looking to play games, paint minitures, collect the models, or whatever. So at least check it out to see if you like it, I know that Games Workshop stores usually have some small games ready for new players to try out.

Hooray! Someone here who thinks of the board games first when they here Warhammer. Alot of people hear Warhammer and think "Warhammer Online" or "Dawn of War".
Oh and I'm tired of all the Space Marine players out there as well. Half of the people playing at the weekend tournament I go to play Space Marines or CSM (and there are at least 2 Smurf players). Ugh... I always take the longest to set up with my Ork army.

I play Warhammer Fantasy every now and then, but mostly just because I enjoy painting the figures, and not for the actual battling. :p
