What's wrong with Sonic Unleashed?

Well looks like this topic has gone to hell...

I'm still going to give my honest opinion on it though. Sonic Unleashed was... good. Not great like Sonic Adventure 2, not amazing like Sonic 1 and 2, just good. The Sonic levels were fun and fast like they are supposed to be. I thought the experience system worked well and gave it a bit more length. Also the boost, drift, and quick step skills allowed for better maneuvers at higher speeds which definitely helped.

On the bad side about half the game consisted of 10-20 minute werewolf missions. They sucked in the beginning but got better as you advanced through the game. Once you got your combat level higher and learned more combos they became more fun but overall, they were a flop.

So there you have it. I thought Sonic Unleashed was good but could have been greatly improved if the werewolf levels were replaced with more Sonic.

On the topic of Yahtzee's opinion. I think he didn't give the game enough of a chance. Usually before you review a game you play through most/all of it. However, for anyone who actually played the game you would remember he said that Tails was the only other appearance in the game, when in fact Amy enters the game about less then a quarter of the way through. This shows that he couldn't even play the game to there before make his "review" of it.

If you managed to read this wall of text then congratulations. If not then whatever, it was my opinion anyway.

There's still, however, no forgiving the length of the night levels, "Chip" and Sonic's dopey "WHOOOO!" when you do a speed boost thingy.

I think the reason most people don't like it is because of how much Sonic Team are resorting to using any idea that pop into their heads for the story. Once you've finished the game, you can ignore the story and just play through the levels you liked.

And while I'm at it, Sonic and the Black Knight wasn't all bad either. There, I said it.

I was OK with this post up until the penultimate sentence. Seriously? it doesn't resemble a Sonic game in any way, shape or form!

My other two cents: The 1st game i owned was Sonic on mega drive, and Ive followed it ever since. After the atrocities that were Shadow and 06, The Day portions of Unleashed are one hell of a step in the right direction. the DLC stages are a great example of how good Sonic gameplay can be. Unfortunately, 1/3 of them are bloody Were-hog stages, and endurance/patience testing stages at that...

The running bits were fun, nay, awesome but the "werehog" parts were slow and frustrating, the one thing I don't understand is why the werehog, who is supposed to be a strong, vicious side of sonic, is actually weaker then the normal sonic, the werehog takes like 5(?) good punches to kill a generic robot when normal sonic dispatches them with a single homing attack. It confuses me.

It's more rhetorical than anything, but feel free to respond. Other than that, I'll leave you alone now.

I feel that, when replying to a subjective disscussion such as this the OP must try to stay objective else the thread turns into a flame war. Regardless of what you might think I feel the vast majority of opinions do not change regardless of argument over the inernet. As such any argument over peoples opinions is meaningless and off-topic. The OP asked "whats wrong with SU" - and a possibe response to that is "its a bad game". Yet the OP will and has attempted to argue otherwise, but did not take an objective approach - rather than attempting to discuss and analyze the reasons why the person felt that way, he/she insulted the person and their source for no obvious reason.

So, yes, I feel for the good of everyone it is best to at least try and view things from an objective viewpoint.

Further more this is a discussion forum, you can explain all the so called "things wrong" with my mindset all you want, I suggest you don't because chances are high the complaints you have with said mindset are foolish at best - I'm merely going on what posts I have seen from you at this moment in time - don't post pure opinion, back up your complaints - I am using a hypothetical situation, but if your going to disagree your going to have to back them up.

I suppose you would claim the view discouraged discussion? In fact it would do quite the opposite in my mind, not only would people not worry about getting flamed by an over-sensitive OP, but discussion could be further-reaching, as people would discuss the details behind their ideas with an OP that encouraged them to do so.

Oh, and by the way the word(s) is a lot, not alot, I know its one small mistake and all that but its a personal pet peeve that I feel I must explain whenever I see someone post using the wrong spelling. (I know very well I somehow spelt "Internet" wrong in the quoted text).

So yes, pray explain just whats so wrong with this mindset - I look foreword to an interesting expansive post...

I suppose I'm going to have join the legion here and put out a negative opinion of Sonic Unleashed.

Granted, playing as Sonic was fun. Playing as Sonic the Werehog was not. Bad combat, awful controls and mindless repetition do not a good game make.

Now, despite the normal opinion, I think Sonic can, and does, work in 3D, but only in some cases. When you're running, collecting rings and jumping on Robotnik's (I refuse to call him Eggman) head, it's fun, whether it's in 2D or 3D. Add anything else to the mix, and all the fun drains out of it.

You have a good point my good man I like it because I feel like in the daytime stages im playing old and the Dreamcast Sonic games. Now the Werehog stages to me are okay but not entirely great mayne if they spent more time on them or just didn't put them in completely it would be the greatest 3D sonic game possibly of all time, and yes I know im reviving a thread I dont care and im only saying this becasue on the srb2 fourms everyone jumps on you for doing so.

To me the Sonic franchise dies when it went 3 dimensional. The camera may as well be the knife wielding assassin cloaked within shadow, waiting and watching in this case. 3-D Sonic is just plain bad, it's hard for me to believe that it came from Japan.

Sonic Unleashed wasn't bad or good. It was somewhere in between, and although I liked it, it needed a lot of help.

Sonic Team should just give up, their influence on the franchise is what's killing it.

I thought the demo I played at Best Buy was okay, but some of the points Yahtzee made against it like forced grinds in between levels wouldn't appear in a one level demo, and others, like the camera problems, were apparent but nullified by the ease of the particular level. Getting the highest rank would have been controller breakingly frustrating, and I could see difficult levels creating quite a bit of frustration as well. I won't pass final judgment on it without playing it all, but I'm certainly not putting money down on it either.

It has the word 'Sonic' in the title. That's what's wrong with it, if people had just let him retire peacefully when they realised he was done then we would all remember him fondly. But because they refused to let him die and have him churn out shitty games, now when he does retire he will with bitter remorse.
