I see alot of vista sucks on forums around the net and its forced me to ask the question, whats wrong with vista?
Things not to include: It takes up a ton of space on the hard drive, It attempts to be over protected but its security sucks.
It has significant DRM checks. AFAIK It checks all components multiple times a second to ensure that they are DRM compatible. If they are not it will cut out and HD-DVD or Blu-Ray signal. All of these checks actually slow down processes so something like XP will actually run faster on the same set-up.

Also, hardware can be remotely disabled if windows detects that you are trying to tamper with the copy protection. Basically, Vista assumes you are a 'criminal' rather than a paying user.

I bought it and though it is actually a decent OS it has many flaws. Microsoft supply no decent firewall or anti-virus. Internet Explorer is terrible, in fact all Microsoft Products are a bit of a joke in terms of functionality. The 'user protection' that is implemented is a major hinderance even to basic users let alone advanced users. The data transfer speed are awful, I mean so bad you might as well be copying any file to a slow 3.5 inch floppy drive.

EDIT: Positives are:-

Blu-Ray and HD0DVD support

Decent 64-Bit integration

DirectX10 graphics

Though most of these can be attained through XP they require significant changes for the average user.

EDIT 2:

64 Bit version lets you run up to 128GB of RAM should you need it. It also makes better use of the RAM that is there.

it takes at least two gigs of ram to run... you can scarcely access the system files... if you get a bug, it takes the best part of twelve hours to repair, because the system keeps telling you you're "not allowed" in those folders... it has a HORRIBLE interface, even the start menu is f*cked up, and the little picture that accompanies the "off" button on every other appliance in existence sits on the "standby" button on vista... it arranges things for you... it was sold to the public when it was still a beta [though it's gotten better since then with updates]... windows have admitted it was released to early, and gave up work on it to move ahead with windows 7... ie it will never work...

My bro has it.we used to think it was terrible, our computer would freeze quite often(once while it was still loding the user selection screen)and would not run worth crap, then we found out the e-machine we used was faulty.now we use a dell(actually greatly priced down here in kentucky)with vista, works great!no freezes, runs like a dream,no viruses thanks to norton,It is a dream.I see no fault with vista(outside of space requirements apparently)

Everything is wrong with vista. No brainer there. The fact that Microsoft is releasing a new windows version within a year or two confirms it. It's incredibly buggy, leechful and demanding from your hardware. If you need your pc for games, stick with XP vista supports only a limited number of games. SUXZ0R!
That isn't an answer. That just sounds like you are trying to find things wrong with it. The things I bolded are the only possible arguments you have but even then the same arguments could have been made for XP when it came out. How is it buggy? How is it leechful? I have had vista for over a year and have not seen any bugs(or anything wrong for that matter), so saying that these problems are obvious isn't going to fly.

O'RLY? Every game I played on XP works fine on Vista except for Halo 1, that run's slowly with all the video settings turned up.
Try to run Fallout 1 or 2 or almost any older game and let's see what happens. The newer games, yes, they were made to be vista supported. No oldies for hardcore dudes <3 So for me, vista can take a hike.
Fallout 1 and 2 and Tactics work like a dream on my Vista comp, did you even try them before spouting off?
Still everyone is arguing about the games and the bugs. Okay fine updates might have fixed SOME of the problems. BUT! The main remains, vista goes all Hitler on your machine and that's that. And don't try to tell me go buy a better PC or w/e not everyone has the resources to buy an expensive PC :)

My typical Windows Vista problem (note, before I turned UAC off)

*Insert item you wish to download here*
"Something is attempting to run on your computer, would you like to allow it?"
*YES*
"Are you sure?"
*YES*
"OK I'm just going to REALLY make sure that what you actually wanted to do, was run this download, 'cos you know, I'm fine if you don't I'm just here to protect you from the nasty Internet, so, yes or no?"
*YES...*
"Only administrators may download files from the internet. Please contact your administrator, or log in to an administrator account to download this file."

There was only one login on the computer, and I was an administrator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TO EVERYONE HERE
Do NOT tell me that XP had the same problems when it was first released. XP was released FIVE FUCKING YEARS AGO. With the progress made it is UN-FUCKING-ACCEPTABLE to release a product after FIVE FUCKING YEARS, rip your FUCKING LIMBS AND TOES for it, and it is unaccpetably FUCKING INCOMPLETE AND FLAWED. So suck it up, and don't try to compare vista with the FIRST version of XP it is FUCKING INSANE to do that.

Oh my D:

Did you ever think to change it yourself? I think just about everyone changed it's function to "shutdown" when they figured this out.

I used Vista for quite a while and had no problems, but hey, it would seem I am one of a very small minority who it worked for/made it work/ don't go along with everyone else.

It's just less familiar seems to be the brunt of it, apart from the occasional slow-down (Mine doesn't really freeze, it just goes slow for about a minute, once a week or so). Once you get to using it frequently, Vista is much better than XP was, though the control panel directories need a bit of navigation help. Looking back on it, XP had a lot of redundancies, which made it extremely open and accessible, but since Vista eliminated quite a few of those redundancies, it seems less friendly. I have more problems with my mac at work freezing than my labtop with vista on it, and put next to each other, OSX is more annoying then Vista, though they're about the same processing wise.

worlds worst operating system. easily. giant piece of crap.

daily crashes
cant remember settings
constant questioning of things I want to do
slow
crashes daily
pales in comparison to XP or OSX
years later STILL buggy
how many different versions are there? Home, Pro, Pro Home, Media, Pro media, Intro, Into Home Pro, Pro Home Intro Media Lite...etc... Just release ONE version of the OS and ONE version of the server.

I cant wait until they release a new OS. I was actually very brilliant what MS did. They release an OS that was SO awful, SO bad, SO buggy that they could easily release ANY new operating system and it would be an improvement. They could take a big dump on your hard drive and it would work better than Vista.

Now they can release Win7 and say "SEE how much better it is? Aren't we clever? Aren't we great?"

MS' new campaign slogan: "Yeah thats right...AND the horse you rode in on!"

There are 2 problems with Vista.

1. Sales Person Issue. Too many machined claimed to be Vista Ready however not enough people noticed all that means is that it can run Vista. Doesn't mean it can run it well.

2. Versions besides the ultimate version. If you look closely Home Premium 64bit version doesn't even support the same amount of ram as the ultimate 64bit version. They basically build Ultimate then chopped it into pieces to make the over versions.

So in summary people with issues either bought a version other than ultimate or bought a "Vista Ready" machine that truly was not all it could be.

Georgepalmer ever thought about it maybe is your computer that crashes daily? I've had vista ultimate for about 1 year and I've never had any problems with it and I cant realy say its slow either, and you can accualy turn UAC off. It takes like 15secs to do that. To be honest it doesnt rly sound that u have ever had a real Vista.

There is nothing wrong with Vista. People who think there is something wrong with Vista who hasn't tried it properly are idiots.

I've never tried Vista, and that's mostly because of all the bloat I've read/heard about. For me, and OS should be sleek, skeletal, fast, and functional. Xp fits that bill, though to be fair there have been a good number of years for us to learn how to better tweak and trim it. Vista was just full of too many bad ideas implemented in some cases to go as far as intentionally annoying the user.

Windows 7 keeps sounding more and more like VistaSE or VistaPlus or whatever. I'm trying to keep an opened mind, but when I trim away the hype, all I'm seeing is another Vista with, sadly, more features and more bloat.
