Heh.

I've never used vista, but then, I don't see the point - I haven't purchased a new computer, and XP works fine on my existing one.

A friend of mine did complain about the interface, but he had specific things he did frequently on his computer (network/internet related stuff mostly), and his complaint?
What took 3 clicks or so to do in XP, now took him about 12 to do in Vista because everything was buried in awkward spots that required navigating through half a dozen menus, where before you could get to it a lot more quickly.

Apparent problems, aside from this?
Bad performance,
Lack of meaningful features over XP.
Stupid DRM implementation that is mostly causes actual users harm (as usual)

But... I can't really comment.
I've done computer repairs in the past, and have to say, when a vista system goes bad, it's a much bigger headache to fix.

I don't really care about vista being good or bad though;
The only reason I even have windows on my computer at all is for games.

I've had (an admittedly irrational) hatred for microsoft since about 1999 or so.
And this came about through the combination of their generally bad products (though they're very good at providing tools to developers, as I've since discovered), and their absolutely atrocious business practices.

I don't care about vista, because I don't care about windows.
I only use it because the alternatives aren't viable for what I spend most of my time doing on a PC.

Why would you ask our opinion only to restrict it by denying some options? This thread is a joke.

My typical Windows Vista problem (note, before I turned UAC off)

*Insert item you wish to download here*
"Something is attempting to run on your computer, would you like to allow it?"
*YES*
"Are you sure?"
*YES*
"OK I'm just going to REALLY make sure that what you actually wanted to do, was run this download, 'cos you know, I'm fine if you don't I'm just here to protect you from the nasty Internet, so, yes or no?"
*YES...*
"Only administrators may download files from the internet. Please contact your administrator, or log in to an administrator account to download this file."

There was only one login on the computer, and I was an administrator!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That was pretty much my problem with it before as he said he disabled it! Iv'e since gone onto windows 7 and i like it a lot more than vista apart from the fact that i want to do a clean install and i can't work out how to format the hdd with 7.

No problems with vista because instead of complaining and whining about everything it does, I sat down and played with it, read the manuals, frequent a microsoft forums and I found it quite easy to kill everything that pissed me off about the OS. I did have a few problems in the beginning but with a little effort the problems went away.

Personally I like vista very much, although Windows 7 is better.
I'd have to agree with this. I don't particularly mind Vista, but I've been using Windows 7 for about 3 months and it takes all the best parts of Vista, while simultaneously improving on it's weak points. Less HD space, MUCH better performance, a lot less demanding, better security. It's what Vista should have been the first time.

I have it. Other than the monthly freeze, I see no problem with it. I like Vista *prepares to be lynched*
I don't even have freezing issues.

I hated Vista when it first came out, due to endless amounts of bugs, hardware driver troubles, retarded security and many more.

Works fine now though. Going to wait a few months before getting Windows 7, just in case.

My problem is that there are a ton of different versions, some of which don't even come with word. I mean, seriously. I hate piracy, but works has some kind of hellza low word limit, and I am NOT typing essays on notepad, so I just had to get me some Microsoft Office Word 2007. Not the best, but it was what I could find.

I like Vista. People who say it sucks are either Apple fans or people who haven't used Vista (in my experience. Please don't flame me).
FLAME!!!! nah I have vista, i don't hate it but im not a fan, xp was better in my opinion and heres why:

I could play KOTOR on XP and I can't on Vista, so why the step down after 5 years when I could do more on XP? Its not an upgrade unless you like the shiny visuals, my conclusion: If you think Vista is better than xp , you must be some kind of small rodent or bird or similarly a small child

I work for a consumer level computer repair company (not naming any names)

I see a lot of complaints about vista, but most of it is due to its badly implemented security. UAC is pretty useless for an everyday consumer. when your entire screen blacks out and asks you if you want to do something, most people just click yes so they can continue with what they were doing. in this way, its probably more lenient to infections.

It still gets the same infections as XP.

I have vista on my tablet, and after some fidgeting with services and background applications and doing registry tweaks (I don't recommend doing any of the above unless you know what you're doing) I can get it to boot in about 25 seconds. I have no issues with mine.

Its just the every day clueless user who are intimidated by it. I don't understand why, when it comes to technology, people's common sense just goes out the window. I would be out of a job if people had common sense and did a little bit of googling.

Vista has to be doing something right because all of American DOD is switching to Vista on endpoint stations. Probably due to the better security and the stronger domain support.

in short, what's wrong with vista? its not a unix based OS

so far of all my comps (for some strange reason) the one running ME was the most reliable froze the least ran the fastest (relatively) then vista and my XP systems have always run poorly. Vista for me freezes maybe once ever 3 to 4 months. also i play games from 1996-2009 and all of them run (except cysis but thats a hoarse power issue).
and every time i use osx or os9 the mac i am using crashes on me or takes forever to load or something redic hapens.

The problem with Vista is it's not Windows XP. The problem with Windows XP was it wasn't Windows 2000. The problem with Windows 2000 was it wasn't Windows 95.

As far as I can remember, everybody's complained about the next generation of OS software because it's got features they're not used to, ergo they have to adapt a bit and get to know them, ergo they assume they must be flaws and therefore the new OS software is garbage and the previous OS software was so much better.

In other words, there's nothing wrong with Vista; too many people are just lazy, whiny and don't want to learn.

The problem is not so much that Vista is specifically bad, just that it was a colossal step backwards. It's a (generally) perfectly functional operating system that is definitely good enough for day to day use.

That being said, it also uses a boatload more RAM than both XP and 7, the User Account manager is either annoying as hell or completely off, with no middle ground, and is all around worse than both its predecessor and the early beta versions of its follower.

It's not a terrible product, it's just worse than what we already had.

I'm of the opinion that microsoft releases operating systems in patterns of 'crappy-good-crappy-good'. Vista isn't horrible but it isn't that great, either. XP was pretty dang good once they got a couple of service packs out for it.

I'll admit, though...adjusting to vista was a bit of an extended process. It took me a pretty long time to get used to what I could and couldn't do compared to XP. There was a great deal of rage involved. And I really disapprove of the marketing scheme of so many different flavors of the same OS...home basic, home premium, professional, business edition, ultimate, etc. Throw on top of all of that the fact that the 'low'-end editions came in seperate 32 and 64 bit versions and it turns into an effing nightmare.

I'll do the same thing with 7 that I did with vista: won't even consider buying it until the first service pack has been released or it gets cheap because the next OS has been announced.

i hate my old vista because it got hacked to easily so now i'm XP and now i cant play GTA4 on my computer =( and my Xbox has the red ring so i cant play it on that either
last time i checked, if you got hacked, it was YOUR fault because you let yourself get hacked. it doesn't matter if vista is secure, just because it has a higher security doesn't mean it un-hackable. nothing is un-hackable, all it takes is a 12 year old to hack ANY computer, even macs, who boast to be "unhackable" which is like saying prostitutes cant get STDs.
oi man screw you its not my vault it got hacked and i'm not exactly blaming microsoft or anything how about i just say XP is way better and microsoft are idiots who have made a whole lot of great things but dont know what to do with them

Everything is wrong with vista. No brainer there. The fact that Microsoft is releasing a new windows version within a year or two confirms it. It's incredibly buggy, leechful and demanding from your hardware. If you need your pc for games, stick with XP vista supports only a limited number of games. SUXZ0R!
O'RLY? Every game I played on XP works fine on Vista except for Halo 1, that run's slowly with all the video settings turned up.
Try to run Fallout 1 or 2 or almost any older game and let's see what happens. The newer games, yes, they were made to be vista supported. No oldies for hardcore dudes <3 So for me, vista can take a hike.
Funny, I have vista and can play both Fallout 1 and 2 on mine... but I did a lot of working with it and they still run slow, but they do play.
