What's your controversial opinion?

I can't understand why Christianity gets so much hate.

It seems like most of the 'religion is evil' sentiment comes from kids, teens, and 20 somethings (of which i am one) wanting to 'stick it to the man' or offend their Christian parents as much as possible.

Where i am from (Mid-western USA), I'm considered a moderately religious guy (I pray before I eat a meal and before I go to bed) but the second i step onto the forums people suddenly look at me crazy and tell me I believe in fairy tales.

Its as if some (and not all) of the atheists here think Christianity is some kind of sinister organization seeking to rule the world. Like any expression of faith, no matter how personal, is an attack on atheism or some kind of subliminal recruitment campaign.

Why can't we just respect region or leave it alone if we can't say anything good about it? Why must those who express their faith here be attacked for it? I don't go around calling atheists godless heathens, why treat me in the same manner?

I believe sex is a special, meaningful act that you should share only with the person you are married to. I get some really weird looks from people when they first ask if I'm a virgin and I say yes, then they ask why and I give them that answer.
The fact that I believe in God also seems to be rather controversial, at least on this site.

Yeah I too have that mentality of sex.

I also have that opinion and its gotten me laughed at before, but to be Christian is to be counter-cultural to a certain existent, no mater where you live.

i agree with Zaik, not because what he says is right, but what he means in spirit is right, arguing that X is wrong because he's never been laid is sexist. My controversial things:

1/ I have strong faith in the United Nations, European Union and such... I think Britain (where i live) should become much more strongly invested in Europe and adopt the Euro. - This is rare for a brit.

2/ I believe in foreign military intervention. I believe injustices (genocide..etc.) cannot be tolarated in any nation, against any peoples. Granted I'm realistic - I doubt it would be smart going into China or North Korea or any other country that poses a true threat to national security. (Not sure if 'acting against genocide' is considered controversial but I know people don't like war, for fair reason)

3/ I think all democratic nations have a duty to help spread and ensure the survival of democracy across the world. (Again, not very controversial but some would argue Imperialist agenda's etc.)

4/ I'm going to add this because many people seem anti-religious here (I don't follow religion but i suppose im agnostic). I think religion is essential to plenty of people. It inspires many good things. people usually focus on the bad - forgetting the good.

5/ Also! I fully believe that if religion didn't exist then people would simply fight over something else.

Not quite. I fully support people being free to believe whatever they want. I just don't support those beliefs being used as reason to keep other people down. I also believe that, while we should have the right to say/believe what we want, your (collective you, not pointing at you personally) right to be loud and proud ends when you start hurting other people.

Yeah, lots of people love that. It's kind of fun to announce it and just watch peoples' brains melt.

But that's just it. They believe you don't have the right. Laws are an attempt to put morality on paper. Morality is subjective and highly dependent on personal beliefs. This means certain beliefs, i.e. Christian "sanctity of marriage" crapola, get signed into law. If the law says you don't have the right, as far as anyone's concerned you don't.

For the record, I'm with you. I say people looking to defend the sanctity of marriage must first realize the institution they are defending is a cesspool of divorce, adultery, spousal abuse, ridiculous alimony, custody battles, and all manner of unpleasantness, much of it perpetrated by the very same people who squawk about sanctity. I understand where you're coming from, but you have to realize that (at least in the US), the majority of the people who claim your religion don't see it as a personal thing. I'm going to skip the rest of your post for a minute and point out that your rationalization for my behavior is that I am incapable of getting a woman, therefore I have resorted to hating all women. I do have to say though, I am surprised to see another woman today take the high road and not devolve into pointless insults. That's two more women doing it than I usually see. I'm not sure how to handle that in percentages, it's like 2/0.

Well, for one, I'm an Objectivist. That's basically a whole handful of controversial opinions rolled up into one little package. I'm not sure why it's so controversial, though, since it's got to be the most optimistic philosophy I've ever encountered.

Also, as far as I'm concerned, the only areas where PC is better than consoles is in the ease of developing for it, mods, and the massive back-catalog of older games. Other than that, consoles are simpler, more economical, easier to maintain, and have more intuitive controls. I don't hate PCs, mind you; I just like consoles a whole lot more.

I started caring after being in the Army for 4 years and realizing exactly how much power that piece of paper holds. I had complete say in what happened to my exhusband if the worst should occur, and I also had legal backing in any battles his parents would have started. I had undeniable access to him when he was hospitalized. I would have had spousal benefits if I hadn't been enlisted myself. Gay relationships don't have most of that.

I have been a Christian all my life and I have never run into someone who thinks they are 'better' than a non-Christian. We believe that Jesus is the only way to heaven but we don't believe that everyone who disagrees with us is somehow bellow us.

I think men are mentally, physically, and any other comparison you can think up, superior to women.

At least, I think "westernized" men are superior to "westernized' women. I can't speak on cultures outside of that. I even think that women statistically living longer is brought out by an artificially shortened lifespan for men due to what they're forced to do and put up with as they live, not some sort of actual genetic advantage women have.
