Muse... for about the last 10 years.
They're 3 fantastic guys living the dream and being so awesome and down to Earth about it all. I love the contrasts in their sound; from the ethereal Space Dementia to the rock-pop anthems like Starlight and Uprising. They aren't afraid of experimenting and taking their music forward rather than standing still and they aren't shy about injecting political statements in their lyrics - they've become quite famous for it as of late. Put it this way, if there was ever a British revolution, Muse would write the battle cry - it's pretty cutting stuff they sing about. They go from hard rockers to classical composers in the press of a skip button. They have albums of pure genius that almost sound like they are made by different bands that can stand side by side like Origin of Symmetry and The Resistance.
Their live shows are also a big reason to jump on the Muse love wagon... I've seen then a total of 13 times now and you really haven't experienced modern rock until you've seen these guys go all out at every gig - you'd think the power slides and guitar hero antics would be cheesy, but they are just effing cool - everyone in the audience wants to be frontman Matthew Bellamy as they watch him on stage become the most wildly energetic, and ridiculously talented axeman alive; not to mention pianist. You can't help but love them. Least, I can't! I have been completely enamoured of their music for a good decade.
Videos are, in order, Space Dementia at Le Zenith, Paris in 2001, followed by Ruled by Secrecy at London's Earls Court in 2004 and finally, Knights of Cydonia at the V Festival in 2008. 3 EPIC performances.
