I used to love anime, but that interest has waned in the past 3 or 4 years. The only anime I still watch is "Death Note" and occasionally "Hellsing". Back in the day however, I used to watch "Astro boy" before I went to school.

Out of curiosity do I watch the 12 episode series or the OVA first? Can't find an answer anywhere.
That depends if you dont feel dirty about watching soft hentai...

Thats basically the ova and the manga.

The 12 episode serious tones it down, but its still pretty funny.
I have no qualms about hentai, I just want to know what comes first.

Also I can't believe I forgot to mention A Certain Magical Index and all its spinoffs. So much great story and a series for high minded people. I think of it as the Half-Life of anime.
If you want cheap laughs and no substance go with the ova

If you want good laughs with a pinch of substance go with the anime.

Thats all I got, doesnt matter where you start really.

Series: Azumanga Daioh - it is funny, I love all the characters because they all remind me of people I know...who are guys, and I'm a guy...it's still relatable shut up!
Film: Pom Poko - brilliant Japanese cast, good humour, drama and fantasy, great animation and a really fun soundtrack.

I also like Samurai Champloo a lot, and I'm also getting into One Piece, but it's a little frustrating that they don't end a story in one or two episodes, just because of how Cowboy Bebop flows, and Trigun and Samurai Champloo for the most part. The underlying story still goes on, but an episode is still stand alone if you want it to be.
