I would say team fortress 2. As good as portal is, there is nothing like the TF2 online experiance when your in a private game with a bunch of friends who are all pretty damn good at the game.

Also, in Portal i beat every damn mission over and over, did every time trial, wore the game out as long as it could go. Play Time? around 25 hours.

Team fortress 2? over 300 hours.

Left 4 Dead and Portal: Still Alive being the only two Valve games I've ever played, I'd have to say those two.

i have yet to play any of them.

i am toying with the idea of getting the orange box, because i am most interested in team fortress 2, and that just seems like a better deal.
WhAt ...
do i really need to explain myself?

*sigh*

i am 16, so i cant yet make online purchases except through my parents. my parents have until very recently been paranoid about buying anything online, so i have never even had the opportunity to play them. they still are slightly paranoid, it's just that i have convinced them they shouldn't be. so i only now have that option.
My parents were exactly the same way. They only warmed up to the idea after I got my own credit card and started shopping online myself. Now they do it from time to time as well. I hate how heavily the media influences people, its kind of upsetting. My advice? As soon as you can get your own damn credit card. As long as you don't give it to Nigerian princes you should be safe. Just pay attention to the url every time to make sure its not a spoof cite, and use sites that seem somewhat respectable.

Team Fortress 2. It's just so much fun.

For the record I hated both Half-Life and Portal. >_>

Half-Life. The first one, of course. In close second is Portal. Those are the only two really great games Valve has ever made. HL2 and some of the HL1 expansions are fairly decent. The rest is mediocrity. Yes, I am aware that a lot of people love some of that mediocrity, but I myself hardly count Valve as a relevant developer whose every move I follow and worship...

EDIT: Ok, I'll admit that the original CS was also pretty fun in its time.

Team fortress 2 followed by HL2. I love TF2 in every way, it's my idea of the perfect game.

The companion cube jokes and cake jokes made Portal a let-down for me.
The fact I couldn't get to the Borealis made Half-Life 2 Episode 2 a let-down for me.
The lack of grenades in Team Fortress 2 made it a let down for me.
The gravity gun made Half-Life 2 great.

Why did u hate half life and portal?
I just simply didn't find them fun, that's all. I got bored with them very quickly and just ended up defaulting to the last Orange Box game I had, Team Fortress 2.

I think it comes down like this. I liked Half-Life's shooting but the story was a bit meh for me. Since I usually play games for story this turned me off from it rather fast. Portal had a good concept but it just didn't really stick with me like it did with my other friends. Maybe the fact that I'm an RPG/Fighting gamer has something to do with it, I dunno.

TF2 just delivered. Quirky characters, great maps and gameplay and just all around fun with your friends. That's what I think anyways.

Finally, thanks for not immediately defaulting to "You don't like [insert game here]!? You are obviously [insert system here]'s fanboy! I hate you."

You know, Im gonna say L4D or HL2, not to be predictable but the former is just so fucking addicting and the latter is just the game that I point to when people ask me what I think a good story should be, but I like the premise of the original question; "Whats your favorite VALVE game."
Valve are definitely the gods of game production in my mind, having never ever EVER EVER produced a bad game, and I think your question is interesting because I have always thought that Valve deserved their own subgenre, and this is fitting.

First play through of Half Life 2 blew my head away as it was my first first person shooter I'd played for a long time.

TF2 for the multiplayer experaince. I will never need to buy another online FPS again!

Portal was another slice of perfection as well.

Half Life Episode 2 was fantasic cause I'm madly in love with Alyx.

And Half Life Episode 1 had the funnist joke in a video game ever.

Actually I recently started a play through of Half Life 2 again and I'm appreciating more and more just how many subtly hilarious bits there are in it.

TF2 for multiplayer game, though L4D isn't far from the first place.

But for overall game... HL1. I don't know if I'm seriously the only one that thinks that HL1 was better than HL2, but I just can't stop loving HL1. Add the expansions and you have a helluva good experience.

Left 4 Dead right now. Half-life 2 really had me going though, as did HL1. And Portal. Damn, they're all so bloody good I just can't decide!
