Final Fantasy VII. The core of my nostalgia, and my favorite story of all time. I don't care that the graphics are less than stellar or that the combat gets a little repetitive, it's still the best of the best.

There are quite a few that fit the description.

-Castlevania Lament of Innocence: While the camera is a *****, the voice acting wasn't really good (Though this was on the PS2, so by comparison it was pretty damn good), and it could get unfairly difficult, It still had some of the best music in the series (which is quite the claim indeed), the controls and combat were damn good, and it truly had the atmosphere nailed down. I have not finished Lords of Shadow, yet but it reminds me of Lament of Innocence more than any God of War or Dante's Inferno.

-Prototype: I really hope this game gets a sequel, it was so much fun to go around New York and cause havoc, plus it had a very unique and interesting way of filling in the story through the Web of Intrigue. The first few hours I played it are even more fun than the first few hours of Vice City, which says a lot.

Finally, though I could go on for a very long time, there's the Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. I LOVE this game, it may even be my favorite game of all time. Every thing from the character transformations, the darker tone, haunting music, and the interesting characters that are actually integral to the game instead of just standing in one place and repeating a line of dialog. If I could play just one game from now until the day I die, this would be it.

Red Orchestra.
Hard as balls, totally unforgiving, game design that pretty much requires camping, but offers an fps experience like none other.
Found out there will be a sequel based on the Unreal 3 engine sometime in mid 2011 and I am psyched. Wonder if my Iphone will play it...
Red Orchestra/Darkest Hour 1944. Just awesome awesome games. There is no other war game that has the atmosphere of actually being in the battle nailed as perfectly as these games do.

The most obvious choice:

E.T. for the Atari2600.

I kid, but what I meant to say was Silent Hill 2.
As far as horror goes, it's highly appreciated, but survival horror has a small fanbase. Most people are to scared or too afraind to be scared to play, or just aren't interested, but if you pay attention, Silent Hill 2 is almost perfect. The gameplay is slightly lacking, but the story and atmosphere are perfect.

Ultima 7. It's in every sense a classic, and it was the first game I felt genuinely immersed in, despite it's many many flaws.

You beat me to it...
I love RO with a passion, but (nearly) noone seems to find it a good game...
As with you, i cant wait for the new one.. :]
Indeed...just wish there were more active servers with decent ping for me. Seems like all the populated servers are in Europe.

Yoshi's Story

It's far from the best game I've played, but I still love it unconditionally.

It makes me miss the horrible, horrible N64 controllers, and the times me and my friends would take turns on the levels, competing to see who could get the highest score.

Gods, I miss my N64 now...

Both Doom and Wolfenstein 3D. I have played these since they came out and continue to play them about once a month at least. I love collecting every iteration of them- for instance, I believe the best version of Wolfenstein 3D is on the Atari Jaguar, even though the controller is weird as hell and it takes some getting used to every time.

Fallout 3

It's the one I always go back to, even after 400+ hours. Just love existing in it.
It's pretty much the same for me, except that you are a 100 hours short.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

Square, I'm talking to you! you hold the power now. How about a break from Lara Craft and her tomb raiding and reintroduce Raziel (or Kain, he's good too) to a bit more reaving. A remake at least would be nice.

Star Trek: Bridge Commander, but I mod it so much it's less a "pet" and more a lab test animal. Still a great game.

Clock Tower, hands down. No matter how many flaws Clock Towers 1, 2, and Ghosthead have (I'm going by the Japanese numbering, by the way: where Clock Tower is for the SNES, the Clock Tower we know and love in the states is Clock Tower 2, and The Struggle Within is called Ghosthead), I love it...and will never stop loving it.

Actually, I own almost every version of the game for every system...including the godawful Wonderswan port (I even bought a wonderswan just for that game).

...And the strategy guides. And the Drama CDs.

I'm looking for the telephone cards. And the novels. God, I still have so much to collect!

The Elder Scrolls IV OBLIVION. I swear, it is my favourite game EVER. I have never got bored with it, i don't know how you can. I have played it for probably 600+ hours and d'you know what? Theres still more to do. Always that new little patch of land to investigate, that new enchanted item to find. Did you know theres a named silver war axe calld ''defiler''? or a named dwarven battle axe called ''naked axe''? I even found fin gleam. Without help. if you know what fin gleam is, you're probably gonna find that hard to beleive, and i respect that.
Did i mention i love argonians? And i mean i LOVE argonians...

A close second would be Fallout 3, another Bethesda game. Played it a little less than oblivion. And i mean a little.

And in terms of waiting for a sequel, Timesplitters. I'm never giving up on that sequel. Ever.
Yeah, I love it too, but i'm trying to get FCOM (a LARGE bundle of mods) to work with countless other mods. This often causes oblivion to implode. But it's definitely worth it.
I currently have 300+ hours in game time.

I'm going to go to the Oblivion Wiki to find out what "fin Gleam" is.

EDIT: I found out. I understand why your're so proud.

Star Wars: Battlefront 2.

Love it and keep playing it despite its flaws? Check. Still have a quantum of hope for a sequel? Check.

I think I like it for a few reasons - it was the first multiplayer PC game I owned, most of my online friends were met there, and, of course, you can be General Grievous.

Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

I bought the game when I managed to find a copy, even though I don't own a Gamecube or Wii. But, I just had to have it in my game collection...
