As far as I know, the oldest member is a hacker that messed with the registration date and the highest post count I've seen is Sassafras.

What about that Vaudevillian Veteran person?

A close second I think. Sassafrass has over 60k, VV has 59k.

Being a mod

This place has a lot of history, and there's some grouping. It used to be a really small, close group until Yahtzee came along. I still don't feel like I belong among the people who have been here a few years, but that's understandable. It's a big community, and if I recognize you you're definitely not new. The thing is, why do you care? Why not just have fun and get friends, you certainly don't seem to have a problem posting.

That's a good question. I guess it depends from forum to forum. Since this is a large community, I would say after a few months. Maybe 2 or 3? Honestly, I've been lurking these forums for about 2 years now, but never made an account until February. I don't know why.

Still, the Escapist is just a bit too big for "new guys" these days. I've been active on the forums for years now, and yet I bet most of the people who have visited the Escapist today wouldn't recognize my avatar. Its pretty much just a sea of faces you may or may not have seen before now.

There are only a few people around here that could be seen as veterans or people that everyone knows of. Just chill out and chat to people, you make friends and all is good

When you stop having the uncertainty lurking within you that you're still the 'new guy'.

For example, I'm now going to boss around a person who has more than double my post count, but makes the critical mistake of being uncertain.

I hope I'm not still considered a new guy.

OT: Its not so much how long you have been here its how much you understand the community.

Back in the day, people did this WITHOUT usergroups and few forum games.

That being said, even with the smaller community, if in '08 someone were to make 1000 posts in their first month, they'd still be the new guy, but just the talkative one.

Well I count myself as one who does recognize!

OT: As a lurker I really wouldn't know, I can say for sure no one here will recognize, has recognized, or really cares to recognize me XD

I wouldn't say it depends solely on one thing I mean if you post a lot that means you just hunt topics and forum games and that can be done in no certain amount of time or effort, and membership duration doesn't show much either because they either be a serious lurker or someone who logs on to the Escapist once a month or longer.

I think badges are your best bet to really declare yourself as experienced.

TL;DR I have no clue consider I'm still pretty much a new guy.
