I read somewhere (can't remember where, might even be here) that there's no such thing as a hard game, it just take more tries.

If you try doing something one way, and it doesn't work, try a different way, rinse, repeat until completed.

Trials HD is a perfect example of this, the fault counter goes up to 200 and I got pretty close to that when doing Inferno II, but I persevered and did it, and I earned my 30G.

P.S. Veteran is notoriously difficult, and as Yahtzee said in his Ninja Gaidan 2 review, can a game (in this case mode) that is expected to be ridiculously hard be blamed for bad design?
Call of Duty 4 is not meant to be cooked down to a "I wanna be the Guy" clone, where it takes unlimited tries to get past certain areas... Sure you progress in IWBTG, but in COD4, it's not even enough after 10.000 trys...
It really boils down to a question of taste and worth. Would you be willing to put in the attempts? Do you think the rewards are worth it? In both cases of CoD4 and NG2, that level of play is not required in order to see all content in a game, so I wouldn't necessarily call it bad design, just a very sadistic option. In IWBTG, basic progression really is that difficult, so being able to say, "I beat the game" carries a bit more gravity.
