Anybody who is a "1337" gamer with a non-gamer friend who is new to games needs to watch Genshiken, to try and get an idea of how traumatic a bad approach to introducing your girlfriend to video games can be (for the girlfriend). Particularly the episode where Saki tries to play Puyo Pop Fever with her boyfriend Kousaka to fit in. It does not end well.

Three Words: Are you winning?
was this while playing either A.a sandbox or B. a tabletop rpg?
This was while playing ANYTHING where 'Winning' is something you can't declare until just before the end. Sandbox games, massive RPGs, Simulation games...

I was once asked it while playing Nintendogs. How do you 'Win' at Nintendogs?

I used to get this all the time from my parents when I played WoW.

Honestly, though, I think that they were trying to hint that I should finish the game and move on.

Honestly, I think it's because they're from an era where even a big game was 'won' in a few hours.

Sorry, I'm no Halo fan, I assumed it was part of the canon. Especially when the setting makes it look like a legitimate game, as opposed to a spinoff, and I've never seen it referred to as such.
You misunderstand, let me put it this way. There's a Halo series and a Halo franchise. Halo 1-3 are part of both but Halo Wars is only part of the franchise. There will likely be a Halo Wars 2 sometime in the future and then we can say that there is a Halo Wars series. A spin-off is merely an entry into a franchise separate from the main series of the franchise, it's not implied to be non-canonical or illegitimate simply because it's a spin-off.

It's not like you're entirely wrong, Halo Wars is indeed the "fourth Halo game" as long as you take that to mean fourth game in the franchise rather than series.

friend #1: 'What's the productivity in playing games?'

friend #2: 'I got 200 hours of playtime on oblivion'
friend #1: 'OMG!!!What's the productivity of that?'

I have learned not to speak about games to people who don't play games. Plus the only thing I talk to my gaming friends about games is new game releases / game news I get from his website because they don't know them.

Most people I konw that are non-gamers play casual games and dismiss most games as kids stuff and a waste of time so I don't talk about games with them.

I don't talk games with non-gamers because they just plain don't get it. Even some of my friends who play games but don't do so in my genre just really don't get like when, for example, I tried to explain Rome: Total War to someone who played a lot of Madden, Assassin's Creed, and Army of Two. He got that "it's a game" but that was about it.

Even other hardcore gamers (like my wife, who has about a dozen characters of at least level 50 in WoW) get stumped when I try to explain games like Patrician III and Victoria. They're just not in her gaming skill set.

My uncle thinks all games are about shooting things or scoring points.

My uncle: How many points did you score so far?
Me: This is Oblivion, there are no points...
My uncle: Oh, ok. How many lives do you you have left
Me: This isn't like an arcade game..
My uncle: Well how many levels did you beat?
Me: There are no levels!
My uncle: Oh, well how many guns do you have?
Me: *picard.jpg*

I give him credit for trying, though.
