"Shut up, you're [wealthy/popular/etc]. You shouldn't be upset. I mean I [Insert problem here]."

It's partially a context thing, but more often than not I see it used for someone to make a situation that someone is upset about(One that is usually pretty legitimate) and turn around and make it all about them. I find it to be such a jackass move.

I wish I could say that I couldn't care less when people say "I could care less".
But I do care. I care so much. I don't know why I care. I shouldn't care. But I do care.

There are other things that vexes me, but I could care less about naming them all right now.

Anyone who says that Asians are inherently better at something. I realize this is normally said jokingly (Oh shit, enemy team has an asian on it, GG GUYS, GG), but I've met people who actually believe it. Now it just pisses me off.

It really annoys me when people say "THIS!" or "this! a thousand times this!" or just "this" when quoting a comment. It doesn't add anything to the conversation. It's almost as excruciating as an "internet high five" or when people talk about "Internets" as if it's some sort of commodity.
this, a thousand times this!

internet high five bro, you win all of the internets.

:p

As for my actual one, 'could care less'. I seriously get this knot of hatred bunch up inside me when I hear or see it. I don't know exactly why I feel so strongly about it, usually I'm fine with letting people be stupid and make fools of them self, but 'could care less' is the absolute exception.

Back in my day, people didn't call things they liked shit. Today the youth screams "that was the shit!" and it sounds stupid every time.
Back when I was a kid, the things we liked were all 'bad' as in "I love The Power Glove, it's so bad." Alright, admittedly I may have been at the tail end of that one.

Same Difference when referring to two similar things.

"Is that an apple?"
"It's a pare."
"Same difference..."

NO! The same difference is that neither apples nor pares are cinder blocks you pricks! Another one that annoys me is when people say they could care less about things they don't care for.

"Hey Tom, you excited for The Expendables 2?!"
"Nah, I could care less."

I take that to mean you care for it. If you couldn't care less than I would know you don't have a single fuck to give about the given subject.

That's the saddening thing with our media-brainwashed society ... People believe each and every shit they get served on the proper plate ... Hardly anyone understands "sarcasm" "irony" and "satire" nowadays ... Thus, we end up with a bunch of idiots believing it's true and thus pushing it ...

"How's it going?" And they really want to know!

And any conversation with more than one sports metaphor.

This is more of a local one for me as I love in the West Midlands in England! I've lived here for a few years but one of the main things that people say that really pisses me off is "He/she gave it me". No they didn't! They gave it TO you!

Another one is when people say "I ain't cared!" That really does my head in! Completely gramitcally incorrect and ain't isn't a word!

A big one for me is when people miss the letter t out of words, such as "can I have a glass of wa-er" It's waTer! There's a bloody t in it! Argh!!!!!!!!

Usually either "You haven't seen anything yet." Or "Just wait until you're older". Or even "You know: There are people out there who have it alot worse than you." Usually accompanied by laughter after I've detailed a problem I had. The second was more in the teenage years but it irks me to no end. Yes: People have it worse than me elsewhere. Yes:Aging and the degredation of the human body results in greater hardships or aches and pains. Yes:Worse thing may have happened to you. But I haven't dealt with those things. I haven't witnessed those things. For me, personally, right now: It's really frigging difficult and/or annoying and therefore I am voicing my complaint. Cripes sakes man, if you didn't want to know you shouldn't have asked me how I was doing.

These two as well as "For all intensive purposes". INTENTS and PURPOSES. What the hell is intensive purposes supposed to mean anyway?

"Socialism" when they mean "Communism" (and don't know the meaning of either one).

"Liberal" when they mean "Not as Conservative as I am."

"Patriot" when they mean "Nationalist" (and don't bother reading into the details of the Constitution to begin with).

"Some people..." or "An expert..." or "Woman/Man/Person says..." There's always someone who believes something completely unproven. The Neo-Nazis still exist, might as well print up a "Some white people still believe in racial supremacy!" CNN. I can't even click on the articles that use the language anymore.

"Scientifically speaking..." followed by absolutely no links to peer-reviewed articles.

"It's okay to be ___________ because it's ________" generally filled in with racist/sexist/etc. and instinctual/natural/supported by this scientific article I read on MSNBC.

"America is a Christian nation."

"We should start doing stuff like we did in the ____'s again" with a complete failure to understand context, repercussions, or basic history. Most recent egregious uses have been military spending, immigration reform practices, and corporate taxes.

For video game specific forums:

"Streamlined" when they mean something completely different and are simply unable to articulate their thoughts.

"RPG elements" when they mean "spreadsheet of numbers describing a character."

"...any true [genre] game..." in complete ignorance of history and lack of definition (most egregious with RPGs that I've noticed).

"That's so gay!"
This statement angers me on so many levels that it isn't funny. Gay either means happy or homosexual, it doesn't mean bad, terrible, horrible, unfair, or any other negative term. Unless they are trying to say that gay people are (insert negative term here) and therefore are like whatever the thing they hate is, but this is even worse because then they are being rude and generalizing. Not all gay people are the same, just like how not all gamers, or Christians, or women, or kids, or accountants are the same. All in all, this phrase is completely wrong and annoys me to no end.

Fuck! you ninja'd me, but yeah on top of this, every single Atheist that brings up some decade/centuries old argument against religion and thinks they're daring, smart, original, or new. Ya know the type that act like they want to suck Richard Dawkins off. Also Christians who like to think that America is a Theocracy, and that God has designated the place his chosen land blah, blah, blah. If God chose America to be his chosen land then why do we have sky high crime, and are 17th in education. Also anyone who preaches the Health, Wealth, and Prosperity gospel. Any one who preaches that is nothing more than a money grubbing piece of crap.

P.S. I'm what's known as a Liberal Christian in case you're wondering.

'nuff said, /thread

especially when they have no reasoning of whatsoever to back it up.

It adds nothing to conversation and it assumes anyone with more valid opinion as useless.

Besides the answer being a resounding "fuck no," sentences would be much shorter without these phrases and still get the message across.
It pisses me off when people take this obviously figurative phrase literally, then strut around acting like they know more than the ones who use it.

OT: Could care less. If you could care less then you do care.
Well maybe I COULD care less. Maybe, just maybe I DO care a little bit, I'm just letting them know that I don't care THAT much.

Well...it's possible, but I understand your points, I just felt like being a wise ass.

OT: Pronouncing "coupon" as "Q-pon." It's pronounced "COOPON" the COU makes the COO sound. Drives me up the wall. Also, I work in a deli, it's severely annoying when you come to the counter and I ask what you would like and you look at me and say "Turkey" or "ham." Thanks a lot asshole, what KIND? You can clearly see we have multiple kinds in our display case right in front of you. I need more something more specific, take the damn time to see what we have to offer so I don't have to rattle off the list of product we carry.

The "you" in this post clearly means the general population, not anyone here specifically.

Also, I see it a lot here. When people say "You just hate it because it's popular." Sometimes, sure it's a viable option, but not everyone feels that way. Example: I don't like Justin Beiber. Admittedly, part of the reason I don't like him is his popularity. I think his popularity is ridiculous because kids these days are stupid in my eyes. It's not solely because of it. I also think he's a pretentious twit that tries too hard to be "cool" and his music is just garbage as far as I'm concerned.
