When square could mean melee or reload.

Have you had the trouble of switching between games only to find yourself accidently throwing a grenade when you try to reload because you're so used to another game's controls? I'm not saying different controls are bad, but when I throw a grenade in COD4 because I was so used to Uncharted 2's controls, I find it often humorous yet annoying.

I tried to reload in COD4 but instead pulled out my grenade. Freaking out, I tried to throw it away from me, only to hit a wall and kill my teammates.

On another occasion I tried to knife someone, oh so sure of my kill, but instead I started to reload, even forgetting where I placed my knife button. (In U2 melee is square, inc COD4 tactical it is O.)

Have you every had trouble from this? Tell us a story.

The difference in controls with Bioshock on the 360 compared to other FPS's is insane and is one of the only faults I have with the game.

Halo

A - Jump
B - Melee
X - Use equipment
Y - Switch weapon
Right Bumper - Reload/Pick up weapon/use
Left Bumper - Change grenade type
Right Trigger - Shoot
Left Trigger - Grenade/Secondary weapon

Bioshock

A - Pick up items/'use'
B - Use health pack
X - Reload/Use hypo
Y - Jump!?
Right Bumper - Change weapon
Left Bumper - Change plasmid
Right Trigger - Shoot
Left Trigger - Use plasmid

The bumpers and triggers make sense but the normal buttons make no sense to me at all.

I -happily- was not one of the idiots who fragged my team as soon as a match in the U2 demo started, but going back to Rainbow Six was... challenging. lol Guns killed people differently.

Bad Company to Cod 4.

"Let's get out my grenade launcher attatchment" *throws grenade* "Shit."

"Haha, Imma stabbin' you now!" *Switches weapon* "Motherfu-"

*Playing as sniper* "Shit he's close to me, better pull out my Desert Eagle" *Throws Grenade*

"Gah!"

Try playing Fable II after a couple of hours of Fallout 3 and count the number of times you accidentally blast a few innocent bystanders trying to access your inventory.

Pretty much this. I hate FPS control changes.

I just change the keys around to what they are with every other game I have of that type.

Only thing I used to do was aim at things because I'm trying to shove them away after playing L4D, and accidentally leaning slightly to the right whilst trying to call for a medic from TF2. Neither of these actions were game breaking. :p

Aside from the usual grenade/shooting mixup, and the jump button mixup between Oblivion and Halo 3...

The last level of Halo 3, where you're driving away and the floor is coming apart beneath you - I'd been so used to GTA4's driving, that when I got in the driving seat to drive my friends away, I couldn't do it and we fell to ours deaths.

I was put on turret duty after that.

:(

Some FPS offer the style of play where you click the right stick to melee, seems more natural as your finger is always on the stick in case a situation arises.

When Day of Defeat switched to the source engine, that caused me some grief a first, when playing as a rifleman right click was a melee attack, but source changed it to iron sight, irritating at first but you get used to it

Having it as the right stick means that if I get tense I accidently press the button, causing me not to move at all and lose my ability to shoot. Which also sometimes makes me slow down in TF2 as when I'm trying to run I crouch as a scout.

After playing Fallout 3 for so long, I would keep hitting F5 to quick save while playing TF2.

I felt really stupid every time I did it.

Yess, very much so, beyween Halo and Call of Duty games.

LT - Halo 3 (Grenade), CoD4:MW (Scope).

This ended in havoc when trying to scope in Halo.

Bizarre combination I know but coming out of playing spider-man 2 I played a bit of halo and for the first 5 minutes kept trying to sprint and wound up wasting my grenades.

Also after playing jak 3 I was playing shadow of the colossus and tried to take out my hoverboard.

Yeah I have had this problem numerous times. But I just laugh every time, because if it is a big screw up my friend will call over the mic "WTF? Why did you do that?" And all I will have to say is that I am playing too much Killzone2 or R2 :p

Going from COD4 to Halo. I kept pressing B to crouch, right trigger to shoot, right bumper to throw grenades, and X to reload. Needless to say, it didn't work out so well.

I HATED Metal Gear's X for cancel, and GTA3's triangle (handbrake in Driver) for enter/exit vehicle. Do you know how many times I've jumped out of a car while trying to do a 90° turn?!

But now I'm a PC gamer and don't have such problems.
