When square could mean melee or reload.

I used to have this problem a few years ago, but I've got better at switching between control sets now. However, the CoD 4 to TF2 transition is harsh; the button to reload in CoD 4 is 'taunt' in TF2. Is there anything more infuriating than realising you've just accidentally incapacitated yourself for four seconds?

Simple solution: user-reassignable controls.

Oblivion has them.

Failing that, why don't we have some fun and try to agree on our ideal control scheme for, say, an FPS?

Aim = ?
Sprint = ?
Reload = ?
Crouch = ?
Weapon Swap = ?
etc.

Well,PC gaming has far more standartized controls than consoles. Nine times out of ten...

WASD = movement.
Spacebar = jump.
Shift = sprint.
C = crouch.
E = use.
R = reload.
And of course,LMB - fire,RMB - special function (most oftenly,precise aim),Mousewheel - switch weapons.

There can be a bit of variety in uses of F and G,and weapon selection is mostly doubled on number keys,but it's mostly standard scheme.

Try playing Fable II after a couple of hours of Fallout 3 and count the number of times you accidentally blast a few innocent bystanders trying to access your inventory.

jumping between Team Fortress and COD 4 on the PS3 is a *****. L1 R1 in COD is aim and fire, and in TF2 it's switch weapons, mean while R2 L2 in TF2 is fire and in COD4 its throw grenade's or whatever perks you have set up. In COD4 square is reload but in TF2 its taunt... Getting killed while your taunting is the worst, however, KILLING someone when they taunt is the best. especially when they are taunting one of your teammates that they have just killed and you fallen teammate gets it on the kill cam (this really happened to me)

Can't tell you how many times i've died in situation cuz of BS like that.

I have a big problem when switching between Max Payne games, leading to a lot of deaths. Apart from that I've never had this sort of problem with games, so I don't see how people constantly blow themselves up in CoD.
