A Wise Man once said "The only proof we need of other intelligent life in the universe is that no one has made contact with us". Very profound, I'm not sure who said it though.
You did.
I bet you googled the quote (i probably would have done the same) but found only this thread as the result. I definitely remember reading this quote in an astronomy book or something like that. It may be possible that the quote isnt word for word but it was the jist of it.

Actually, I didn't google it. You typed the quote, and didn't know who originally said it, but you said it. Therefore, you are a wise man.

I doubt it'll be anytime this century, unless they make contact with us first. We just won't be advanced enough unless we make huge leaps and bounds in the areas of interstellar travel and communication. Which I guess is possible... But we certainly won't have faster than light travel by then as far as I can tell. We haven't even got close to light speed yet, or any known physics that would allow faster than light travel.

It also depends on what you mean by interaction. Do they have to let us know they're there? Cos if not, then we might be interacting with them already without us even knowing.

Id say... Never? If there is a Alien race out there, and they are more advanced than we are, they will stay away from destructive and overconsuming homo sapiens

Depends if your scientist experimenting on lab mice for a couple million yrs would you try to make contact

Plus they probably think we're all xenophobic red necks who will shoot first and ask questions later like in the original "The Day the Earth Stood Still" So never as far as i can see

We will never make first contact because we are alone in the universe.

Take that NASA

[sup]I'm sorry, did I spoil the ending for you?[/sup]
Well, sir, Earth breeds no Timelords.

an unknown time because we can't control it mainly due to the fact that we haven't gotten past pluto and found the warp speed causing thingy from mass effect.

When we land on Mars, we will uncover the remains of an ancient extinct civilization. The discovery will jump our technology hundreds and hundreds of years forward, making space exploration possible. They will call it the greatest discovery in human history.

But.

We people of the galaxy will call it...
why does that remind me of what happens in spore?

I estimate that we'll make contact with aliens by the end of the century. I suspect technology will advance to the point that we'll be able to meet them halfway in space by then. (That's why they keep making little obscure appearances. They want to talk to us, but they want some effort on our part.)

You mean the Cosmic Space Zombie that can talk to you telepathicly if you eat his body & drink his blood?

Makes sense. But of course you did forget about the Evil Lord Xenu

Our first extraterrestrial interaction will occur when some space cowboy sneezes so hard his brain explodes and we realize we've brought back the intergalactic plague from Persei Omicron 8.
