Where are these so called "assholes" on COD

I've been playing a lot of COD Ghosts online as of late, and what I notice the most (outside that I suck at multiplayer) is that there are no assholes online. Where are these people I've heard so much of of? I'm not denying there existence, but I think the internet or at the very least the "Hardcore gamer's" saying that there are, are just over-boasting how there are homophobic teens or swearing kids or just plain unpleasant people. Maybe I will meet them one day, but as of now, I haven't. (P.S I've been playing on PS4, so maybe it's just X-Box live?)

It's not NEARLY as bad as people make it out to be. Though I've heard it is better on the PS3, you still don't run into them very often on Live.

WARNING: I'm about to stereotype the hell out of kids/teenagers. It shouldn't have to be said but this does not mean that all kids/teenagers are assholes and/or adults can't be assholes. That said...

I personally think this is due in large part to Live Parties. Generally the assholes are the gang of kids/teenagers that are together and so they act like assholes to impress each other. With parties, these gaggle of kids/teens either hang together or they have no one to be assholes to (because the rest of us are in our own party).

For the PS3, not as many people have mics since it doesn't come with them. This means that many of these kids/teens don't have mics or their targets don't have mics so with no audience, they're quiet.

When it comes to the PS4, I'm going to go ahead and stereotype that kids/teenagers can't afford the thing yet.

Same thing with MOBA games - I've played several years of LoL and a year of DOTA2 more recently. Sure, you'd get the occasional douchebag, but the keyword here is "occasional". 90% of my games would go with interaction limited to game-related things, maybe some light banter. Particularly in DOTA2, where I'd very rarely get harassed or see people harassing each other. But still, MOBAs get a shit reputation as the cesspits of the internet...

I disagree somewhat, I'm not sure if it's an ELO thing or not. I regularly run into folks who will bicker at the first instance of contention, or scramble to pin blame on teammates, or even just flatout insulting or intentional feeders.

I haven't needed to tattle on an obnoxious user in quite some time, but I still notice that tensions flare at the first sign of trouble.

Possibly due to matchmaking. In both LoL and DOTA2 I was decidedly midrange - around 1400-1500 rating in LoL a few years back when I played it, High matchmaking in DOTA2. I'm guessing that complete dickshitters were below me and raging tryhards above me, leaving me with a pool of reasonably sane people to play with... :p

Or perhaps x-box gamers are just naturally more rude :p Just kidding, I'm an xbox player myself, and rude and stupid people gather on all consoles and other systems.

I think the people that complain about the 12 year olds just had a few bad experiences or heard about it from someone else. However, it's just fun to make fun of other people just because they get mad. Just like people on tumblr annoying young kids because they know they get angry.

In every game that has online aspects and possibilities to chat or converse there are trolls, assholes, diehards, but also a lot of very fun people.

Funny, I ran into about 10 of these "Assholes" over the last few days in matchmaking on XBL for Ghosts. In every case it was a young teen screaming and cussing his head off. Even more amusing was at least 4 of them were also cheating their asses off too then bragging about how "leet" they were and how everyone else sucked. Oh well. One of them I know for sure was suspended. I just wanted to ask "How's that $500 bricked console working out for ya now?" and "How are you going to explain this one to your parents, Dumbass?"

They all migrated to the vulgar-mic-filled grief fest that is GTA Online. Seriously, unless you're playing friend or crew-only, it's less "open world crime story sandbox" and more "run for your fucking life from psycho killers who already have the whole police department after them." Basically, it turns into "The Purge: The Game" or maybe a slightly less post-apoc 'Escape from LA.'

Edit: To be fair... I did once murder a whole group of players with an assault shotgun who were innocently leaving their golf game, unexpectedly entering a crossfire. But at least I didn't keep going after them endlessly whilst berating them over mic afterwards.

It is a stereotype made more prevalent by a plethora of YouTube videos showcasing the few idiots that a person runs into.[footnote]And in some cases, the person was trolling the "asshole" just to get that response.[/footnote] Now, I do know Xbox LIVE is the worst environment, and I have found that most complaints come from people using LIVE. Still, it is far from being as bad as people claim it is. It's actually no worse than any other very popular shooter I've played.

Eh. I've only played Halo Reach (Xbox360) and Halo CE (PC) online and honestly rarely meet a-holes. Though met a few and normally I just troll them back... I do remember a lot of them back when I did played RuneScape and normally I was able to shut a good amount of them up.

where most of them have always been: peoples imaginations.

Call of Duty gets *way* too much flak for what it is, Sports games come out year after year with no improvements yet people flock too them, And the'assholes' on CoD are the odd few kids who really, can be muted with the press of a button. but too be fair, Most 'assholes' Are on Xbox, thats filled with Kids compared to PSN (not trolling or flaming, its just the truth.)

Hunt you down, put multiple bounties on you, call Merryweather to kill you by sending in mercenaries, send a mugger to stab you and take your cash, kill you and run you over with A BLOODY TANK, and than have them talk on the mic saying "haha you are all so fucking shit you dumb faggots, you can't kill me", and then repeat the process from there. It's Purge: The Game with the cops chasing you down while all of that is happening because you walk past one of them. Some people just want to watch the world burn Mr. Wayne... I mean TangoPrime.

In the thread below this one.

I don't play CoD, but I know plenty of people in real life who say they love being obnoxious over it. They're all xbox players as well so their may be a correlation. Even then they weren't terrible, it's was typical middle school insults.

That's a pretty bad example, given that:
- He was provoking them
- I don't think I can even find a single insult directed at him throughout the whole video
- There's the possibility that he only got a reaction every 1 out of 10 games or so (video editing)

Like others have said it's something that's been blown way out of proportion.I've been playing CoD online since the first Modern Warfare game and I can honestly say I've only encountered a handful of genuine assholes in the 6 games since then and I'm playing on Xbox Live which is supposedly the most toxic online gaming environment out there according to a lot of people. In fact I probably encountered just as many dickheads in the brief time I played Team Fortress 2 as I have in 5 or 6 years of playing CoD

Eh, people tend to greatly exaggerate the vile nature of the COD playerbase. The only game, IMO, where this statement rang true was the first Modern Warfare and since then each installment has had significantly less loud mouth jerks. I imagine that most people who make this claim haven't played a MW game in years and whenever they see someone post video on youtube about some obnoxious COD player they just assume this is the norm.

Ahh you've fallen foul of one of the normal internet problems.

People moan about things to hide the truth...most of them are just shit at COD and then justify quitting by blaming it on some unprovable nameless group of people that spoiled their experience. What they are really saying is that they got their ass handed to them, lack the ability to do anything about it, and then threw their teddy out of the pram and cried about it...
