I'm still here, but like people have said, a lot of us older users have either moved on or been banned. I think it's more to do with the big influx of newer people, though.
Where did all the older Escapist users go?

Furb banned, Hub banned, Teddy banned, Kharloth banned, Cuth got eventually banned, er...Xandus banned, HankMan banned then banned again for ban jumping, Xandus again, Timotei banned then unbanned, Zeeky banned and Xandus again for the third time, I think. I came here for ZP, like many, and joined in because I saw newbies getting not-torn-apart and thought it was worth the risk.

I came here for ZP, and signed up to take part in the interesting and more intellectual discussions that were alot common back in the day.
Now? I just lurk, and occasionally add my opinion to things, normally a post a day.

For every major person someone remembers, it's just a part of smaller group that we grow attached to. For my early posting days, a lot of folks like Gigantor and FeNinja have since moved on to other things, there are the odds like The Necroswanson that get banned, and those that seem to mysteriously disappear into the ether. (I'm looking at you, mshcherbatskaya.)
Before that were the days of Almighty Joe and Joe.
However, for every name I can list in my generation, there's a later generation like that of the rise of the Holiday Council (Heya Xitel and Galletea), the infamous like MaxTheHeebieJeebies and later Hubilub, Furburt, and the like. Lately still, the folks around Kuliani's Community Management days. New mods showing up more and more frequently around this time, too. New rules, as well. Several projects, both community and site-wide, that have either fallen off-radar or gone to ground. User groups seem to have stuck.
Later Spinwhiz as community manager. Introduced another set of mods, a completely different set of rules, and all sorts of things inbetween. Now we have something completely new with Nasrin.
In another year and a half, we'll have whole new generations talking about how the new kids and their fancy new forum MMO's or some other idea that most of us from 2010 or earlier feel is jumping the shark with the forums. Every new thing will signal the downturn of the forums. Wait another 2-odd years, and the next next thing will have the same effect, but for the 2012 or earliers.
Or, y'know, we'll still around. Watching.
Could go either way.
