Where Do You Think You Go When You Die?

Well, i really want to say you just rot in the ground
but my other idea is that we don't die. When someone you know dies, that's in your eyes, and everyone in that dimension. But they really live on, and keep jumping dimensions. For example, let's say someone you know dies at 20.
They wouldn't really die, they would be alive, but in a parallel universe. And they will live on. and then they die in that one, and move on to the next universe. but no 2 people's universes collide with one another.

OR

my friend had a seizure, and she said that she just felt like she took a nap. Maybe we just sleep and dream for eternity, that would be SWEET.

It's impossible to tell, mostly because nobody knows what happens when you die unless you... Well... Die.

I like to think that if you went through life happy and with the right intentions you move onto another plane of existence similar to what the christians believe, but not really.

I'm agnostic, mostly because sitting on the fence is getting rather comfortable, but also because I like to think there is a god, but no religion has truly convinced me which story is the "one" true story.

When you die... You move onto a world where time/age mean nothing. Most likely the 6th dimension. And from there, who knows...

Death isn't a bad thing and shouldn't be feared. It's a scary blessing mostly because its unexpected, and nobody knows whats beyond it. But, if you're prepared and ready to face it, you'll do fine.

I think when we die, we instantly get reborn such as a newborn baby without feeling anything. It takes like a split second.
I wish...

Wouldn't that be awesome? But how come I don't remember last time?
That would be great. Actually, that makes a lot of sense if we do.

When you die, your brain stops and all that makes you "you" is gone forever and always. No pain or suffering, no blackness, no thoughts or memories either. You cease to exist once your brain dies.

In short: I'd prefer hell. At least there, I'm still me.

Death, we fear, because it is unknown, but death also makes us think, Should we live a pios life? Should we be altruistic? We have been told all of our lives that we should, so some great plainof eterna happiness hits us, or we will wake up as another being. But, in my opinion, I say that due to no sensory input, and no brain to provide conciousness, ourselves as we know it, through our eyes, go into complete nothingness, with nothing to see, so there would be no colour, black is a colour, so you wouldn't see black either, you would see no colour. No sound, sso it wouldn't sound like an echoey cave, no smell, no perception, at all.

You wouldn't even know you were dead, your brain wouldn't function, you'd have no memory, no anything. The closest thing I have to compare is a dreamless sleep, that fits most of the criteria, and in the end, jhust sleeping without dreams forever isn't that bad, is it??

Basicly, What I want to say is summarized here:

Not really, an eternal holiday sounds quite nice.
Perhaps the concept of heaven and hell, or re-incarnation may sound appealing, but that is only because the people who say it fear death, and want to think, that they will not be going into an unknown frontier, the thing religious people hate the most, and they will think going to a place where they can bathe in extravagance, or live forever, or burn, because at least they will exist, but, being nothing will not kill you, logically, in nothingness, there is nothing to harm you, hurt you, control you, so, there is nothing to fear.

I always believed there is something after this life. Too bad no-one reached the light, saw it all and came back:p

And just to make clear; I'm not afraid of death, only what comes after.

We go into the ground.

I would like to believe in re-incarnation but I think that's just a bit less far-fetched than the Heaven or Hell idea.

\o/
How is it less far-fetched, lol?

> Our souls go to Heaven for being good, hell for being bad.
> Our souls go into an animal, which dies, then we go somewhere else, in a cycle.

Seems the same, or perhaps more so to me.
Although I don't buy it myself, I've heard people try to justify the idea of reincarnation by saying that we have "souls" (which I also don't believe, but it isn't quite as farfetched as the idea of an omniscient deity), these souls, they claim, are made of life energy. At this point, they reapply some of the laws of thermo dynamics (that energy can't be created or destroyed through normal processes) to suggest that the energy will be transfered to another life form. This of course neglects other laws of thermodynamics, like any transfer of energy causes a loss of some energy, and it also rejects the possibility that the energy souls could simply dissapate, or float off into space forever. The big hole is that the theory lacks some method for applying the used soul to a new body. Still, at least these people have a theory of some sort with a couple of semi-rational assumptions behind it.

That said, I think the idea that I would "go somewhere" after I die is a missconception, because I think that it is quite improbable that I'll "go anywhere" (although I'll admit there is a possibility [an extremely improbable possibility] that there is an afterlife of some sort). However, the simplest solution (which according to Occams Razor is then the best solution) is that after death we simply cease to be, because this hypothesis does not hinge on any non-justifiable assertions. And because it doesn't require any extraordinary claims, it also doesn't require extraordinary evidence, making it the best fit to what we do know.

The important thing for me is to lead a good, long and successful life. If I do that, then whatever death holds shouldn't be too bad.

I wonder, though: Is having an afterlife or fading away into nothingness a more comforting thought? Both have their ups and downs.

I think the idea of something happening after death makes it too easy to throw away life and the life of others, especially if you are in a position of power like say... the President of America! It would remove fanatics and that can only be a good thing.

I believe in a sort of Buddhist-like reincarnation, in which you live, die, and are reborn until your soul is perfectly wise and experienced enough to join with the universe, or what we call "God". I believe that calling this state of existence Heaven and describing it as a perfect place, coupled with persuading people to do good, is a way of keeping this system going, so that, more or less, everything in the universe has a recycled bit of "soul". Eventually, all things will have done this enough to have the Universe be perfectly in sync with itself.

I like to think that we come back as ghosts. If you're one of those ones that runs about a house being caught looking spookily into a camera or simply sit on the porch and leave a smell of smoke is down to what you were like in life.
So pretty much you carry on as you were but everyone's really creeped out whenever you try to talk to them.

In regards to what actually happens when you die, I have no idea.
