Where do you want the next fallout game located?

To be honest I have no idea what specific city or area the next Fallout game should be in, but I only have two wishes for it.

1) It has to be in America. I know it seems cool to have a post-nuclear war story set in England or Australia or something, but the tone of Fallout has always been about Americana, so changing the country would completely diminish that.

2) Have Obsidian make it. Yes, I know New Vegas was buggy but was it was much better written and more fascinating story than Fallout 3 and the original creators of the series would have a much better idea of what area would work as opposed to Bethesda. (No. Stop. I don't want to hear some argument about which game was better. Fallout 3 was a good game in it's own right. But New Vegas was a better Fallout game. Ok?)

Either in one of the former "United Europe" Areas, would get quite intresting, since theres a lot of Possibilities (and sooooo much Areas for Addons as we are familiar with Bethesta by now).

Or maybe the Location is not that intresting, as the time, since Civilisation started to come back already after part two.

The time zone between Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 might give some intresting opportunities.

Same as the last 20 or so threads asking the same question, Philadelphia. The city itself is rather varied so would make for a relatively diverse location (lets face it, just wandering around a grey city for hours would get really dull really fast), there's plenty of history to exploit, and... well okay, I'm biased, I grew up in the area.

New York would be fantastic. It has to stay in America. It wouldn't be Fallout anywhere else.
Fallout Mexico could be pretty good.

Or Fallout Carribean. Do it like Zelda Windwaker.

I think California/West Coast is the natural progression area to get to.. but I would prefer a big jump somewhere like Mexico, South America, Austraila, Asia.

For fuck's sake... Does no one here actually understand Fallout? The Fallout series is and has allways been a satire of american culture and it's societal fears. Australia is NOTHING like america. Your fears are different. Your ideals are different. The way you live and work is DIFFERENT. Or do you just want to be another one of the endless horde of gamers with no clue as to what their actions mean. Those that are making us sink into the mire of society's fear, hate and contempt.
I understand a game mechanic, and I understand satire. Hell, i'm british, we thrive on it! Hell, we even have proper sarcasm, not the watered down American version. But half the satire in these games, not being Yanks like your good self, we don't get.

Grand Theft Auto was US satire too, but took their game mechanic and made it work outside the US, and it worked! So whats wrong with taking the Fallout mechanic and taking it elsewhere? Give it a makeover, make it another society in the 50's! A complete overhaul! Why not?

Rendering the post-apocalyptic European Commonwealth in 1950's retro futurism sounds like it'd set up a pretty good challenge.

But I'd rather have those areas in the non canon Fallout games first. Vault 0 for one. ^.^

But Fallout is american.
Yep. You need that '1950s Americana turned up to 11' background or it just isn't Fallout. You need that mix of bright optimism and gut wrenching paranoia, of affluence and technological progress, of the facade of social conservatism starting to just crack in places. No where else had all the facets.

...I'm not american. I'm from new zealand... and no, there is no reason why you can't take the IDEA behind fallout and use it in another culture. But Fallout is american. You could have... I don't know...something like Nuclear Death Danger: ethiopia or what ever, but fallout is about america.
PS. It's a satire of not just the fifties' space tommorrow ideal, but of the current ones as well.
First of all, sorry for presuming your nationality! I'm usually one for checking these things before making my particular argument in a debate, unfortunately I am suffering fom a lunch coma and it has made me temporary sloth-like and lazy! :p I didn't mean anything by it at all! I try not to sound personal when participating in online healthy debates!

I can totally see your point. I mean, it wouldn't be Fallout without all the iconic 50's cars and art style! I suppose it would be a very different feel, probably too different. But it doesn't stop me having a wanting to see a different world to explore. One a bit closer to home perhaps! The problem with having a game LIKE fallout, is that people won't like it because its NOT fallout, and if it IS fallout, then people won't like it because it's too DIFERENT from Fallout! Vicious circle... I guess we will never see another first person post apocalyptic world as good to play as the Fallout series!

I still stand by that Rome would be awesome to see as a playable world, but if I had to choose somewhere in the US... I'd go with New York, just for the touristy approach!

It's because of that DIFFERENT nature that I would like to see a new setting.

I'm very much aware of the satirical nature in Fallout. The problem is that the satire has been the long-running joke for five games. Hell, after playing through New Vegas, I didn't really SEE any traces of showing any kind of real social commentary through the setting. Its set up just like Fallout 3, with seedy crime and slavery ringleaders and diametrically opposed military factions and a swap of the AI President for the computerized Howard Hughes.
The setting is based on that jingoistic 50's kitsch mixed with clunky future-tech, and as well and good as that is, given the question to see the game in a new location, I'd like to see the world expanded.
The entire goddamn planet is a wasteland. No civilized area of the globe was spared from nuclear devastation, and I'd say its about time the rest of the world were explored. To me, Britain would be the most logical choice, being another western superpower. The thought of seeing how their society developed alongside the US and how they reacted to their actions leading up to the war fascinates me.
I am a person who likes new perspective. Continuing to base the series solely on American society is a sign of the developers resting on their laurels and getting lazy. There are numerous places outside of the US that can provide a new view on how the Fallout universe unfolded. Be it China, Britain, Russia, Canada or anywhere else on the globe, a new outlook can greatly expand the Fallout universe, and I for one would be grateful for it.

I've heard of it. All original strains of apple original from that part of the world!

Without Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan's original strains we would have our modern apple today.

And consequently we would have no apple pie, apple crumble, Appetizer or even an Applejack!

Think about it!

Russia would be awsome. Like Metro 2033, but with an 50's soundtrack. Or the Netherlands in an post apocalyptic setting.

The deep south.

I want to ride on a riverboat down a swamp shooting at mutated inbreds while my companions shout things in a southern drawl.

Plus, gators.
