Because it sure as hell isn't here.

On Friday, Sweden's Svea Court of Appeal upheld a conviction against Simon Lundström, a 37-year-old translator of manga, on possession of child pornography for 39 manga images. A lower district court in Uppsala had convicted Lundström for 51 images on his computer last June and fined him 25,000 kronor (about US$3,900).

Svea Court of Appeal ruled that it cannot determine that four of the images depicted children "with a sufficient degree of certainty." It also ruled that eight more images did not meet the legal definition of pornography. However, the court upheld the lower court's ruling on the remaining 39 images as child pornography. None of the images depicted real children.

The court of appeal did lower Lundström's fine to 5,600 kronor (US$860).

Lundström has translated over 80 volumes in two series for the publisher Bonnier Carlsen over the last decade. However, after the Uppsala ruling in June, Bonnier Carlsen ended its working relationship with Lundström.

Really? The US also did something like this. How can you classify DRAWN images as child porn? That's just messed up. As far as I can tell he doesn't serve jail time or anything besides a fine, but NONE OF THIS IS A CRIME. He shouldn't have to do shit.

Perhaps because it's a picture of a child in a pornographic situation? Real or not, that's going to look a hell of a lot like CP to the majority of people.

It looks like child porn, and the majority of the people are going to see things like that and count them as child porn.

Wizard's first rule indeed. This happened because the county put the law above its original purpose.

Regular pornography is not illegal. The reason CP is illegal is because the child would be harmed/doesn't understand what it is doing etc. That is why CP is bad and illegal and regular porn isn't, on the other hand, drawing harms no one. The pictures that are drawn come from a pencil, not from an actual child being harmed.

You know what a taboo is, right? CP is a taboo in every single way. Even something as innocent as watching an anime involving little girls can be pushing it for some people. No matter how you justify it, it will always be considered immoral and wrong amongst the majority of people. That's a simple fact of life you have to deal with.

So in other words, keep your folders hidden and encrypted.

Hence why I tell one of my Swedish friends that I can never go to Sweden.

It is my RIGHT to have several thousand Gigabytes of Loli. It harms no one.

On one hand, it's understandable enough that they feel it's child porn. On the other hand, absolutely no one is being hurt and the government should be spending more time trying to get people who actually hurt other people. If he actually went out doing whatever to little kids then feel free to castrate him and leave him to rot, I think. Translating manga doesn't hurt anyone, so he shouldn't be punished.

People shouldn't get so worked up against fiction. Anyone saying "think of the children" should realize it's a completely BS argument if the form of media shouldn't be in the hands of kids in the first place.

Honestly? Yes, its something of a travesty. No ACTUAL crime was commited, outside of the violation of social acceptance and decency, but that is a very fine line to be crossing. Once you can make a law based on opinion, where do you stop?

That said...CP is CP, man. And while its not nearly the worst thing you can find on the net, CP is a taboo beyond taboos in most of civilized society. Its very tough to argue in defense of it in any form, and very, very few people would even be willing to hear you out in the first place. Its just the way society is, regardless of legality or moral correctness.

Sure keeping your fake child porn hidden is an okay solution for some of us, but thing of the precedent this sets: The court's ruling is essentially saying that any depiction of a child/underaged person/minor is a sexual situation is child pornography! Classic works like Lolita are considered child porn now. Any sort of actual porn starring legal adults portraying the cliche schoolgirl or babysitter are child porn now.
I don't agree with child porn, but I think that classifying any depiction of a crime as that crime is just plain dangerous. Should I be convicted or murder for watching Passion of the Christ? Should I be arrested for drug use and possession for listening to Sublime?
Hell, just think of what this slope represents to us as gamers, where we take part in interactive portrayals of violence all the time. Hell, anyone who's ever played Grand Theft Auto could be up for a real-life death sentence...

While you have your rights as a parent to that, the fact remains that no one was hurt in this process, and the law was far overstepped.

As someone with a fairly large lolicon collection, I find this to be stupidity beyond reason. Am I a pedophile because I have these images? No. I find the idea of doing something like that to an actual human under the age of 16 disgusting, consent or not.

Makes no sense. Why would you have the pictures in the first place?

What do you do with those pictures?, be hornest. No..ok.

If it's a drawn pornagraphic of children it's still wrong.

Why would you want to draw images of children in that situation for? Pretty fucked up if you ask me.

Indeed an unjust law. Repulsive as animated child[footnote]Or rather in this instance animé character depicted as underage; who presumably don't even resemble actual human children any more than ordinary animé characters do.[/footnote] pornography is, it hurts no one, and thus should not be the target for a legal ban (or ethical condemnation for that matter; it's just gross, that's all really).

Outlawing it isn't even mere thoughtcrime; it's outlawing stuff that might sometimes be able to lead to thinking of committing crimes against actual humans, but hasn't been proven to. Nor have it been properly assessed whether it couldn't help divert attention away from actual children, which everyone can certainly agree would be a good thing.

I suppose a bonus could be that if it's edited out, Manga with other artistic merits might be able to be enjoyed by a wider audience, who would otherwise recoil from them.

I wank to those pictures. Why? Because I find all animated characters attractive. My lolicon archive is about 100 Megs. My entire hentai (animated porn) archive is about 10 gigs. Rei Ayanami is hot (technically lolicon since she's 14). But does this make me a pedophile? No.
Oh...my.... ....well then, go right ahead . But when stuff like this end some of you up in jail and at the bottom of the prison food chain, don´t say society didn´t warn you.

In my mind it´s wrong on so many levels to depict children in sexual context, and fortunally im not the only one.

With the Youth Ordinance Bill being passed and now this, I can see this turning into a witch hunt. If this isn't stopped now, I can see myself getting in trouble with the law for dating Naoto in P4 (who is 16). This could get ugly, real fast. People have a right to be offended. They don't have the right to unfairly prosecute people who don't adhere to their outlook on things.
