Yes, we are stupid assholes to celebrate the memory of the heroes who gave their lives to defend this country and the world from tyrants and people who wish to do harm to innocents

It would have been nice if there had been a notice or something put up on the main page somewhere that The Escapist was taking the day off so there wouldn't be any site updates--not everyone is American or knows about American holidays. How was anyone to know? I know, I know, Americans think we're the center of the world and everyone knows everything about us, but...yeah. I'm American but have lived abroad for so long I have no idea when any American holidays are anymore and was going, "WTF, where's the update? I know I didn't get the day wrong," so I know people in other countries, who do indeed visit the site, would have no way of knowing why nothing was being updated.

At any rate, regular businesses, especially entertainment businesses, that people would expect to be open during a holiday will say that they are closed for the day. It would not have been overly difficult for there to have been an announcement or something on the front page saying y'all were taking the day off. It seems irresponsible, to me, to assume everyone from all of the world who reads the site would just know y'all were taking the day off and why.
Fair enough, certainly can't argue the logic of any of that.

I forget holidays in other parts of the world actually are holidays for most people. I'm not sure who does get a holiday on the 8 days listed on the calendar here in the UK.

Your determination on when and how much the Unskippable guys should work notwithstanding, it is a holiday for everyone at The Escapist, too - which includes the folks who actually make sure the content gets put up on the site.

For those who aren't from 'round these parts, Memorial Day is to honor the men and women who died while serving in the military. It's a big day for parades. It's also the unofficial beginning of summer. Many people go away for the long weekend, others simply enjoy it by spending time outside, having cook-outs, camping, and suchlike.

Hindsight is 20/20. I imagine lots of British and Australian websites don't put up notices of when there's a British/Australian holiday, either. Especially if most of the staff knows about the holiday.

Not a bad suggestion, but it probably didn't occur to people such a notice was necessary. Not because all us Americans are selfish, but because we're human. Sometimes humans have been known to not think of everything in advance. Maybe certain others could just cool off a bit and wait another week... Lord knows Yahtzee has taken a few breaks here and there in updating. I'd rather have no Unskippable than a clip show.

As for everyone who's still whining about the lack of an update (in spite of the explanation), I just have this to say:

I think remembering those who died defending our country in, for example, WW1 and WW2 is just a little more important than a site update. Just because somebody isn't American doesn't mean they still can't respect the sacrifice of those who walked onto Utah beach knowing they were going to die there.

I would like to point out 4 things, 1. they are based out of Victoria, BC, CA, which means that, no, there is no holiday for them today.

They Posted a video (yes, both of them appeared) on their website LoadingReadyRun, on monday, so no, they are not dead or otherwise unable to post.

In addition, there was a holiday in Canada LAST Monday, and they posted.

Lastly, they are self employed and as such it is not mandated that they get statutory holidays off.

In conclusion:

There is no Holiday,
They wouldn't get/take the time off if there was
They are not dead or something

That's just stupid...everyone knows only British Columbia is a part of europe!
FYI, they are based out of BC, making them a part of Europe, and thus, not a part of the Americas.

If you'd bother to read the thread, you'd notice that Graham already said they did make a new Unskippable, the Escapist just didn't put it up yet.

Gotta wonder, since the guys did make a video, how much work can it be for the Escapist to upload a video that they couldn't do it despite the holiday?

Because Canada is totally part of Europe, right?

Totally agreed. I don't even know all the holidays in my own country, how was I supposed to know any of that?
Yes, the Escapist is US-based, but the community is very international (one of the reasons I like it).
A quick note on the news section or something would've been more than sufficient.
