I think this video explains one of the factions I enjoy:

"That which I cannot crush with words alone, I will crush with the tanks of the Imperial Guard!"

Either the Necrons, because they are almost unstoppable, or the Tau, because their philosophy is the only one that is even close to being "good", also the Kroot rock your socks and then eat your brains.

Interestingly I almost never play either race in DoW 1, usually opting to play as the Imperial Guards, mostly because of the Baneblade.

Having read most of the Horus Heresy series I really like the marines now. Always thought they were too 2D before but that series humanises them really well.

And to anyone whos a TOTAL nerd. What was the name of the legion which turned traitor cos they believed the only way to end the civil war was to win a decicise victory and then let chaos collapse on itself? I cant for the life of me rememebr.
That would be the Alpha Legion. Their reasoning was that by its own nature, a victorious Chaos in the Horus Heresy would destroy itself out of its own appetite for destruction, thus erasing it from the galaxy and allowing the races to live together in peace and harmony.

Just don't tell the Tyranids that.

Or the Necrons.

Or the Orks.

what was their reason again?

I remember all of the others just not them....
Basicaly, they sulked because while they did the besieging, other chapters, specifically the Imperial Fists, would do the actual conquering and flag-planting.

Besides being an ork player since 40k started, I appreciate their outlook, at least for the darkness of the far future.
Let's face it, everyone in that universe is screwed, but the orks wouldn't have it any other way. They don't fight for resources, territory, or their souls. They just fight because it's fun.

Peturabo got pissed because him and his boys get getting the worst missions going-seiges and garrison duty.
Also being a bit Paranoid Schizophrenic probably didn't help matters.

For me Angron and Magnus have the best reasons. magnus was screwed over by his Daddy for trying to understand his powers and Angron was forced to abandon his brothers in arms.
Aanyway to answer the question-Chaos. Or ORKSORKSORKSORKSORKS...

Either Tau or Imperial Guard. Tau because, hey, they're the closest thing this setting has to good guys (Doesn't necessarily MAKE them good guys, but still). Imperial Guard because they're both mostly sympathetic and because they have Ciaphas Cain, HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!
I second these statements. Tau and Imperial Guard are two remotely sympathetic sides here, plus Tau are somewhat nice (as nice as they can be in 40k, anyway). Or maybe Orks, i like vandalism. It depends on whether being... y'know... human disqualifies me from siding with Orks.

But you know what? This setting sucks for living in. Whoever you choose, you lose. When closest thing the setting has to good guys are weaboo space communists, i do not really want to side with anyone in it.

So fook thaht. I reject those sides. Instead, i choose something different... I choose the impossible... I choose...

Chaos; daemons especially, their just harsh and the fluff is funny and who doesn't love being the ultimate evil in the galaxy? If I was asked about the marines though its either Death Guard (Tempus Fugitive rules are evil) or Thousand Sons

Good god where do I start? I've played every race at one point or another except for Dark Eldar currently I'm playing an army I read about in the fluff.

An army which no one ever wants to explore, the human wing of the Tau Empire, the settlers from the worlds the Tau have conquered and the soldiers left behind after the Damocles gulf crusade. Basically it boils down to men (tau) with lots of mecks.

so... for the greater good... and all that. (At least until Ordo Xeno finally comes out... come on GW! Less love for the Space Marines and create/update the armies that actually need it!)

In their defense, the Blood Angel's hadn't had a real Codex since 2nd edition...

Any of the Adeptus Astartes.

The books, for the record - especially the horus heresy, are brilliantly written. Bravo Mr Abnett, Bravo!

Imperial Guard because I love the books by Dan Abnett about the Tanith squad.
Love the way Chaos seduces all the Primarchs in the Horus Heresy too.
In DoW I play Imperial or sometimes Sisters of Silence.

But its the same for the Dark Eldar and I've not heard anything about giving them an update... Also why is it that the Space Wolves have the most powerful psycher in the game? I thought that honor belonged to the Eldar by right!

The Adeptus Mechanicus, praise the Omnissiah, the flesh is weak and so on.
Additionally there have been signs of thier Machine God actually is the C'tan Void Dragon in wich case I would be turned in to a necron.

Necron is infact my second choise.

Ranged firepower is my style, so the Tau. Got a small tabletop tau cadre, and am pondering going Farsight enclave, a renegade faction without kroot and vespid that doesn't take orders from ethereals.

the Raven Guard are the coolest Imperial faction though IMO. They focus on coordinated surgical strikes and stealth while their primarch, Corax, has a interesting backstory. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Corax

Hmmmm Space Marines as always. Cannot beat superhumans with superweapons and giant ships.
Second would be Necrons. Now cmon, robots are awesome. These fire blasts that split you apart atom by atom, they rock

I do love the idea of a sneeky Space Marine... with... jet turbines... strapped to his shoulders...

I'm starting to wonder if it's the Raven Guards awesome stealth skills, or that their enemies are all idiots.

I play: Daemonhunters (puritan), Space wolves, and Necrons. Out of those I have to say space wolves...but I have a fondness to the fluff of the Eldar, i mean it takes a serious party to spawn a god. Though I also enjoy the Imperial Guard...I like 40k fluff alot

I tend to prefer highly advanced units with smaller overall numbers as opposed to 'swarming' tactics, so Eldar. Autarchs, Banshees, Dire Avengers... How can you not like the style?
