I have fluctuated a lot, but after getting Vista and seeing Windows Media Player, I like it the most now. The way it handles the Library is great, it's compatible with syncing for my Walkman (amazingly fluent), and I can minimize it to my Taskbar (which actually works properly and doesn't stretch the bar out anymore).

I also still occasionally use Winamp for music, iTunes ONLY for when I update my iPod for the car, and Media Player Classic for DVD's and most videos. I used to use VLC but I think I prefer MPC now.

I haven't had any problems regarding Amarok on my laptop, a 1.6GHz Pentium M with 512MB of RAM, running Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.
wat can i say really, admittedly its not very high. i mean its not like 50% or something. but i get sentimental as soon as my resource usage goes above 10% so i stick woth mpd :)
and also i think amarok2 is quite neat but imo u really need kde for amarok, but i run gnome so :)

WMP. I like the interface, although the most recent versions suck a lot more than the old ones. I miss the option to play every MPEG on the computer, regardless of playlist or filing arrangement.

I use WMP for the most part, for a few reasons:

1. It was the only media player I had before iTunes was installed.
2. It does everything I need it to, and works with the special keys at the top of my keyboard for media (itunes only works with these when it is in front of other windows, however WMP works perfectly even when in-game TF2, allowing me to change songs etc without alt-tabbing)
3. It looks decent, and has an interface I can navigate without much difficulty.

Although I must admit, the new visualizer for iTunes 8 is very, very awesome looking...

So for me I guess it boils down to:

iTunes if I feel like watching a cool visualization.

WMP for everything else.

i would recommend the core media player but the only problem with it is that it crashes sometimes and you couldn't view some movies but it is great most of the time. my second choice is the VLC media player. its alright simple but very efficient.

I use iTunes for music only because I went and manually done about 80% of all of my 20GB of songs meta data. I use MPC for videos grouped with CCC for .mkv files.

I have an LG Chocolate 2, so I use the software that came with the phone to organize my mp3 collection. It would be a pain to use that one for transfers, and another just to listen.

VLC player 90% of the time, though if we're strictly talking mp3's, then I go for Winamp, since it seems to use fewer resources.
