So I am looking to get a new game. Being an incredibly stingy person I don't really want to pay for a bad game. I was somewhat looking for an RPG with good combat elements. I have heard both Bioshock and Fallout 3 were really good. The combat elements were really good, and the story was decent. I have read/watched both reviews and both sound really good. What should I get if I favor RPG stuff a little bit more then combat elements?

Bioshock isn't really an RPG, it's a shooter with RPG elements.

Fallout 3 is much more an RPG that happens to have shooter elements.

But the real question is this... would you rather go on quests or shoot things?

If the answer is Shoot Things... go with Bioshock. Though in terms of money Fallout 3 is more bang for your buck.

Bioshock is an excellent game, but I never felt it was an RPG, I always thought of it as an FPS. In fact it was Zero Punctuation where I first heard it mentioned as an RPG.

The only RPG's I have ever likes are the two Knights of the Old Republic games on the original Xbox. They had great stories and levelling systems and the combat wasn't too bad either.

Not another fairy tale land sword smacking...whatever it is RPG thank you very much. Huh... alright then I may go with fallout 3, my friend was telling me Bioshock was a wondrous RPG, but I guess not?

Bioshock has some mild RPG elements but it's definately not a fully fledged RPG, both games are fantastic, though I prefer Fallout 3, then again I prefer Fallout 3 to just about everything.

Both are good games if you take out the hype.
Fallout is more sandbox, Bioshock is more linear.
I personally liked Bioshock more, as I found Fallout 3 to be rather...disappointing. But others disagree, and you might as well.

Much of the combat in RPG's become dull and repetitive, I'd go fallout3 as it gets dull slowest.

Fairy tale land? You have never read the books. So please, spout your ignorance elsewhere.

Unless you consider hard and brutal fantasy world with so many swears a pirate would be ashamed a "fairy tale". Hope your kids never hear of THOSE fairy tales.

I support The Witcher, it's a great game ( although the fighting mechanics are rather simple ).
But if I had to choose from these two, I'd pick Fallout. It has DLC and is quite a good game, if you decide to put in enough effort and explore the world. While Bioshock is not really an RPG, you can just choose from a few powers and feats, lets call 'em. And you can also pick stuff up and your character eats it on the spot ( but you can do the same in F3 :D ). Honestly, at some point I was scared that my guy would start eating the ammo I pick up, choke on the grenades and die ...

Sarcasm fail? I dislike all the fantasy, Dark Ages, RPG's that are everywhere. Anyway, they swear a lot? Oh noes? Then of course it must be a great game?

Then since you don't like fantasy, all of them are fairy tales.

See, putting words into people's mouths is really easy. And fun, don't you think?

Also - a game is hardly a fairy tale if it's mature enough to have swear words and nudity. Excluding hentais... But then again, they are rarely mature.

Fallout 3, no contest if you want a solid rpg. Especially since it's (relatively) new the pc modding community is pretty active.

Fallout 3 is the best RPG next to Oblivion, but you don't seem to want swords so Fallout it is then.

There are 3 mistakes in this post, find them and win a cookie.

Hints: the best, RPG, and Oblivion.

RPG = Roleplaying game, you play the 'role' of a vault dweller in a wasteland.
Since a lot of gamers are either new, or haven't been around for 20 years to see all the previous rpgs, fallout 3 WOULD be considered the best modern rpg lately, and since oblivion is also modern it does work, sort of.

I have only been gaming for 8 years, so if you are referring to an old RPG eing better, I wouldn't know. How are Fallout 3 and Oblivion not RPG's? Finally, Oblivon is still my all time most played, and one of my favourite games.
