Who did you root for when watching Death Note?

Light. He was the greatest. L was good too, but he was meant to be nothing more than a stepping stone. But he was amazing too.

There was only 2 characters I really disliked, and they were Near and the other orphanage boy. I really felt like the story bit fell apart after L's death, but his death was also the high point of the series.

Does anyone know another manga that's awesome and follows the "Battle of the minds"- theme?

Yagami Lighto, personally, but I loved L too. And, unlike most people, I didn't actually dislike N.

Still, I identified more with Kira.

light/ Keira deffinately. i mean L was so cool, i was really sad when he got killed off. but light what just so far out there insane, and a mad genius to boot. and he died it was pretty sad too, and kind of pathetic because he was just so determined to kill EVERYBODY and be a god... And Near? he was kinda a lil asshole... Mello was cool too, that whole show was awesome! i'm glad i have it all on DVD i'm gonna watch it tonight after anime night tonight on [AS]

Light. I really thought that L's death was a fitting end to the series.

And then Near brought, along with some interesting stories, a character that just wasn't L

It didn't feel right.

Light. Although I did find L intresting. Near and the kid I hated. I gotto say, rooting for Light was painful because I saw the ending coming miles away.

The first two to three eps of death note were the best. Basically both Light and L were portrayed as perfect rivals. The show went on a downward spiral from there and hit rock bottom with...

The thing that I liked were two evenly matched chaps trying to outdo the other. Take one of the two out of the story and the balance tilted and the story comes spiraling down.

Replacing L with Near was just insult to injury. Having Near succeed was a slap in the face. Damn you, Near. Now everybody is dead, and you won't stop playing with your toy truck.

L. I lost interest after the story no longer revolved around him. I never liked the whole power trip thing from the death note. It was a clever series but lost its pacing a bit I think.

Same. Granted, I think Light is a well-crafted character, but I really wanted L to truimph. One of my favorite characters of all time, I tells ya.

I didn't really care, up until Near came in.
I hated his character so much, I had no choice but to root for Light.

ha, nobody likes near...

although when near showed up, it made me miss L instead. at the end, i was rooting for Light, but L is still number 1 ^^

I liked light a lot better, until the show decided to villainize him...because obviously you cant kill the bad guys and not go ape shit insane.

L i thought was very interesting as a char, but his morals baffle me...he acts very lawful, but then does the big bit with the girl, which kinda throws that out the window.

And like most have said b4 me....most of the stuff after L with Near just sucked.

I always hated Light (in that he was an effective villain), both because of his morality (which, as a social liberitarian I find repulsive), and because of his willingness to use human beings as tools to achieve an end. A TV show has never made me feel more defeated or elated than when L died and Near won, respectivly.

Also, I actually liked Near. Not as much as L, of course, but found the child with the mind of an adult concept quite interesting.

Also, he plays with Lego. I LOVE LEGO!

I liked Light but L was much more fun as far as characters go. I wanted him to capture Light and win, not:

die! I couldn't believe they killed him off and replaced him with Near! I kind of liked Near but he, sir, is no L

Light. L was really cool and I liked his character but I was still rooting for light. Near was such a pain and that made me like light even more.
