Who else thinks Chrono Cross is better than FFVII?

Put those giant swords away and hear me out FFVII fanboys. After playing halfway through Chrono Cross I came to a realization, this game is wayyy more fun then FFVII. I have to admit I played FFVII up until the Weapons were unleashed and had no desire to continue. The game wasn't that fun for me, I found it a chore to play and the story and characters make no sense.

Chrono Cross on the other hand has a more relatable group of characters and a nice sense of humor. You'll notice subtle things like the names of characters referencing to other games etc.. The protagonist is not some depressed teenager that pretends he knows what is going on (in fact that seems to be a theme for FF games, Tidus, Cloud, Vaan Lightning are all the same). The combat is also turnbased but it is unique and a refreshing change from the standard turn based combat that I could barely tolerate in FFX and FFVII. I could go on but I don't know what to say, this game is just... better.

What do you think?

Hell, I think Chrono Cross is better than any Final Fantasy game, period. And even better than Chrono Trigger.

Also, the Fast Forward by holding R2 function is AWESOME.

Eh it's okay. But i've slowly learned the all JRPG's have at least two of the same type of characters in them. One is the always angry no matter what can't cheer them up depressed and angsty fuckhead. The other is the overly cheery "let's do everything together" high-pitched voice bubblehead. I can't escape them.

Chrono Cross and The World Ends With You are the only JRPGs worth playing, or at least worth oogling at while they sit behind the store window laughing at how poor and Irish you are.

Never played Cross, but Trigger is better than any Final Fantasy game I've ever played.

I never actually beat CC but, I liked the battle system more...and the plot...and the sprites. The FMVs in FFVII were alright but the characters looked like they were made of lego. The mini-games were pretty good too. I dunno...I enjoyed both

What system is Trigger for? Is Cross the sequel? Am I missing something?

I didn't know you could do that.

Trigger is on SNES, PS1, and DS at the moment.

The DS version is far and away the superior one.

Well, it's AFTER you beat the game. You can run around at super speed, fight faster, summon faster, etc. Hold down R2 to speed everything up.

They both suck. Now if you said Chrono Trigger it would be a no brainer that it is better.
I concur.
But really, There's a bunch of old/new RPGs that are way better than FFVII

Cross is better than Trigger by far, and even more so than FFVII.

There are two major reasons for that:
1) Magic system. I still can't believe games haven't attempted to steal this yet. The ability to "earn" to cast your next tier up in magic for attacking makes it a real strategy on how you will attack, then at the end of the battle they'll let you use the left over power to heal your group. Because of the ease of post battle healing, all of the fights can be a little more challenging.

2) Characters. The cast is huge, and by not talking to a random towns person with no name or answering "Yes" instead of "No" to one of their non-plot questions, you can have your potential pool of characters drastically altered.

Yeah but CC was made in the same gaming era as FFVII so its not like I'm comparing FFVII to Demons Soul. I just don't understand all the love for a game that had better games released at around the dame time (if I'm right about release times).

Haven't played Cross, but Chrono Trigger is 10000x better than FF7, and quite a lot better than any other FF game.

I'm not the biggest fan of FF games but i have a firm belief that FF7 is by far the worst.
